Cyrus Engerer didn’t “ditch the party”. He was asked to leave when they found out about the police proceedings against him.

From Malta Today’s report on the Cyrus Engerer case:

The PN took typical pleasure in the unwelcome turn of events for Engerer, a former PN candidate who ditched the party when still deputy mayor of the Sliema local council, in protest at Lawrence Gonzi’s opposition to divorce, in the run-up to the referendum campaign.

“The court sentence is clear proof of Joseph Muscat’s political immaturity in accepting inside his party a person facing such serious charges, just to score a political goal,” the PN said.

At the time of the charges, filed after a 2009 police report made by Engerer’s former boyfriend, the PN did not take any disciplinary steps against the Sliema councillor. In fact, Engerer was appointed Sliema deputy mayor after his predecessor was elected mayor in the wake of the departure of former Nationalist mayor Nikki Dimech, on suspicion of charges relating to misappropriation of funds.

“Muscat cannot stay silent and evade his political responsibilty on this case,” the PN said. “He should demand an apology from the public for fielding a Laboru candidate while he was accused of such a serious criminal charge.”

Honestly. If they would only bother to check back through time, instead of disseminating Labour’s propaganda message on the subject of why Cyrus Engerer and the Nationalist Party parted company, they will see the chronology.

That chronology also involved Franco Debono, who took Engerer’s brief even though he was a Nationalist MP, and then colluded with Engerer in keeping the police investigation secret from the party leader and secretary-general. Both of them were still in the Nationalist Party at the time.

As soon as they found out about the police action, they suspended him from the party pending the outcome. His reaction was to rush to Labour.

If I’m not mistaken Engerer went to labour few days, maybe weeks, after he was sacked by the PN.

The guy is not only a criminal but he is one heck of a liar.

  3. Rox says:

If you read the comments morons leave on Malta Today, you’d think the PN were/are out to get him.

Nowadays twits not only believe whatever they’re told, they actually make up the story themselves – unless of course they are Malta Today fifth columnists (pun intended) who pretend they are Joe Public, just to confuse people.

What’s worse is that this guy is Minister Helena Dalli’s civil rights consultant.

  5. Min Jaf says:

First it was “ghandhu jitlob apologija minghand il-poplu” instead of “jiskuza ruhu mal-poplu”.

Now we also have the Maltese-English version: “he should demand an apology from the public” instead of “render an apology to…”.

What happened to Nikki Dimech, is he still being embraced by Joseph?

  8. Clueless says:

Just to keep things in context, Engerer had previously been responsible for publicly outing Gouder on Facebook when they were both still at the beginning of their political careers.

  9. bob-a-job says:

Cyrus let it be thought that just because he had more fingerprints on his arse than Scotland Yard, these would be translated into votes wherever he went.

Unhappily for him his past has finally caught up with him as will eventually his notorious betrayals of friendship.

    What goes around, comes around.

  10. Gahan says:

How foolish of us – this must have been Joseph’s big surprise.

  11. Brimbu says:

The court has done its job and this matter is settled.

However, the timing of the judgment and the way Cuschieri stopped attacking Engerer, after a meeting he had, makes me wonder if a plot was in action. This would make Engerer the stone that hits two birds.

But then again, my son accuses me of being paranoid.

[Daphne – Oh please don’t be silly. What you’re saying here is that Judge Mallia takes instruction from the Labour Party or the government. It’s amazing how many people actually think of the Courts of Justice as the long arm of the government. I believe this is due to insufficient education in civics: the institutions and the separation of powers.]

It is for the PN to issue a statement correcting the Maltatoday bullsh** quoted above.

  14. Xejn sew says:

In his statement Cyrus Engerer said he is assuming responsibility as a proper politician should. In the very next breath he stated that the judgement is unfair and what he went through – as opposed to what he put his ex-boyfriend through – is down to the PN’s political vindictiveness. Assuming responsibility, indeed.

Here are some excerpts from the Court of Criminal Appeal judgement that put Mr Engerer’s sanctimonious bullcrap in the right perspective. Ladies and gentleman, this is Cyrus Engerer:

“Illi nteressanti wkoll jigi nnutat Ii l-istess vittma jirreferi wkoll għal incident meta’ wara li bdew il-proceduri kontra’ tiegħu, l-appellat kien qal lill-vittma li kien fl-intererss tiegħu li l-affarijiet ma jikbrux u dan peress li fin-nuqqas id-difiza jkollha ‘tipprogetta, turi…l-affarijiet fil-Qorti li jiena (l-vittma) iddispjacini jekk jidru.’”

“Meta l-appellat gie mitkellem mill-pulizija rrifjuta li jwiegeb ghad-domandi li sarulu koncernanti l-allegazzjonijiet migjuba fil-konfront tieghu però, ikkonferma illi kellu relazzjoni mal-kwerelant fejn kien jghix mieghu fl-indirizz tal-Furjana, liema relazzjoni intemmet fil-Milied tas-sena elfejn u disgha (2009) u cioé ftit granet qabel inholoq l-email fuq imsemmi.”

“Fl-ahhar il-Qorti ma tistax tinjora t-theddida (xhieda Marvic Camilleri, fol 103) illi lappellat ghamel lill-kwerelant biex ma jkomplix ghaddej b’din il-kawza ghax jistghu johorgu certi affarijiet illi jkunu ta’ aktar misthija ghall-istess kwerelant. Din ittheddida giet imsarrfa proprju fl-ahhar tal-gbir tal-provi meta fis-seduta tas-sitta u ghoxrin (26) ta’ Ottubru tal-elfejn u tnax (2012) (fol 188) id-difiza esebiet “pen drive” li allegatament kien fih filmat illi juri… “materjal li gie elevat mill-intimat…” bir-ragun, il-prosekuzzjoni oggezzjonat ghal din il-prezentata izda l-Qorti ma tat lebda direttiva u l-envelope kontenti l-“pen drive” baqa’ fil-process. Dana juri f’liema livell waqa’ l-appellat sabiex joskura lill-kwerelant, igieghlu jirtira l-kwerela u jahbi r-responsabiltà tieghu ghal dan ir-reat. Fortunatament l-appellat ma rnexxilux f’dan l-ghan qarrieqi.”

One final observation. Guess who was Cyrus Engerer’s defence lawyer who connived with the accused to twist the victim’s arm to drop the complaint by exhibiting more embarrassing material in Court.

I am voting for Cyrus. He best represents what Labour represents.

  16. Volley says:

If I remember correctly, Lawrence Gonzi once said that Joseph Muscat will one day regret taking Franco Debono et al into his party’s fold. Well, I think he was a ‘prophet’ then.

  17. rowena smith says:

Will Cyrus Engerer face Public Service Commission proceedings since he is a civil servant?

[Daphne – Engerer is on the state payroll but not a civil servant.]

  18. Natalie Mallett says:

It seems that whatever the PL pick from the PN skip starts to stink sooner or later.

Does Joseph Muscat not realize that if there was any hope that these people had any decency in them, Lawrence Gonzi would not have removed them in the first place?

Such a shame really, when you think of the poor talent the Labour Party is made up of.

If money did not exist they would have absolutely nothing to boast about. As things stand they can only brace themselves with the way they are lining their pockets with other people’s money. Thieves and misers the lot of them.
