Ambassador Marisa Micallef spent €8,241.55 of public money having “hazardous trees” removed from the garden of her official residence in Washington

What were the trees planning on doing – getting drunk and groping her (see previous post)? Pitch themselves en masse at the roof? I wouldn’t have had our ambassador in Washington down as a tree-hater, but maybe she wants to have a pool put in.

I’d say Her Excellency wants a larger entertainment area and has put into practice her successful policy of eliminating anything, everything and anyone that stands in her way.

Norman Hamilton beat her, though. He spent €10,179.79 on photocopiers and a three-year service agreement for them. You just have to wonder how Joe Zammit Tabona managed. Maybe he copied everything by hand or whipped round to a copy-shop.

Times of Malta also reports that €9,480 were spent on flights to ferry a “ministerial delegation” to “San Paolo” and back, “on a site visit to identify premises”. I hope they mean Sao Paulo, at that price.

Yes, Sao Paolo. Brazil and Mexico have thus far been looked after by Ambassadors resident in Washington.

  2. La Redoute says:

Why does the foreign ministry need to inspect premises in Sao Paulo? Brazil’s seat of government is Brasilia, a flight away from Sao Paolo.

    • Arnold Layne says:

There are plans to open a Consulate General in São Paolo. I bet the Consul General wil be an iced bun appointee who gets posted in time for the World Cup.

    • Mike says:

It would be interesting to know who inspected the premises; who are these ministry officials?

And how is her cousin, His Excellency Mark Micallef, doing in Madrid?

I can’t read this stuff anymore. What an absolute waste of money

News like this one make my blood boil with anger.

My elderly parents must now pay for their daily medication because under this incompetent government free medicine is more often than not, out of stock, while this bunch of idiots are wasting thousands and millions of the taxpayer’s money like there is no tomorrow!

    Malta taghna lkoll, indeed.

  6. Nokkla says:

So typical of Ms Micallef, ever so arrogant, seems she’s taking it out on the trees now.

  7. Another John says:

It seems that she has taken a Maltese habit to Washington with her: that of removing any tree in sight. Maybe they were ‘damaging’ the foundations of the building?

These pests and vermin are not present around trees in the USA or northern Europe.

Leaves you can rake and place them in a huge paper-sacks for composting by the municipality, I do this every late autumn on my property and touch-up in spring time for leaves that blow over from the neighbours, yards.

Trees give needed shade in summer and convert CO2 to oxygen and also attract birds, if you happen to be a bird-watcher like I am. I just seen a Bluejay and a lovely Cardinal in a live oak tree while sitting on my back patio having my tea this morning, lovely sight, makes one a bit connected with nature still in this day and age.

Big cars and speedboats are cooler than trees.

Any mews from the Auditor General ?

  11. Joe Fenech says:

    Three photocopiers? For what?

He isn’t using them to print material for his own company, is he? Are these photocopiers networked with Malta; is anyone monitoring the usage?

What material does the High Commission need to print? Almost nobody prints anything now, because it’s all digital.

    An arranged marriage of inconvenience

Before getting into the standing of the two main and one little poltical party, the role of the GWU cannot go unnoticed.

Well, of course the GWU is being believed by those who do not think but not by many more. Asked about the most reliable source of information respondents to the survey named “the GWU as the least credible”.

All over Europe, in all the other applicant countries, every political party red, blue, green or indifferent, have joined forces to get the best deal for their country, acknowledging the EU is not perfect or heavenly but is our best chance of surviving what is currently a bleakish future, thanks to the growing threat of international terrorism, among other things.

Only in Malta, only the MLP and GWU, have joined forces in this absurd marriage of inconvenience to lie and tell us to be scared.

And most important of all, you pay your contributions as a member of this union. It commissions reports on whether we should join. And then, because the findings are generally in favour it hides them!

    What a workers’ union!

It is not surprising that the man and his team, Eddie Fenech Adami who has worked hardest on EU membership, should have a popularity and credibilty rating of 62%, while Alfred Sant actually has a worse credibility rating than the man who probably cannot even get elected as an MP with our current system – Dr Harry Vassallo

When I look back at this whole election campaign, and how various groups have been persuaded for or against one thing has stood out. The PN had a product which was in the interests of the working classes to say yes to, yet their campaign has swung the middle classes far more. The MLP had a product which could rely only appeal to the most xenophobic right-wingers and yet their campaign has worked in the minds of many loving housewives and many genuine working people. The wrong people are voting Yes and No for the wrong reasons.

How strange that the normally astute Maltese have not understood what they are buying into on Saturday?

It is interesting to note that the writer is none other than Marisa Micallef Leyson.

It appears that since the time of writing her piece in 2003 yet another marriage of convenience has taken place, that of Marisa and the MLP and because of this she is now much more scant with the truth, after all how many of us can spend €8,241.55 of public money to have “hazardous trees” removed from our gardens.

As for the GWU – they like the MLP, will never change.

The GWU have been in and out of marriage with the MLP for as long as I can remember but unlike Marisa, the GWU never had any credibility.

Has she found a man in Washington yet? Or did the hitching-site attempt fail?

  16. Dissident says:

This photo is not Photoshopped, but it probably took them more time to apply the amount of make up on her face than to fix the president’s portrait.

  17. Anon says:

Well someone took ‘Macbeth’ very seriously.

  18. M. Borg says:

It’s ironic she should be sitting on a park bench with a wily look in her eyes for the photograph.

‘I’m also on quite a few boards: the mental health commission, AZAD and BICC. I hope I wasn’t chosen to be the token woman.’ – Marisa Micallef Leyson

    What token woman?

She must have pushed for those jobs because they were rewarding financially or otherwise in fact she also joined the Naxxar PN Committee for a few weeks until she realised that there was no money in that so she just did not turn up anymore.

Then Joseph appeared to her and she was converted.

  20. Deeprooted says:

It’s her roots that need doing and not those of the trees.

And wasn’t Baroque Ken visiting her last week? Wonder what advice he had to offer her.
