The outgoing leader of the Greens in the European Parliament (and iconic star of the 1968 Paris student riots) Daniel Cohn-Bendit (pictured here) has said that European Socialist (and friend of Muscat) Martin Schulz “should be ashamed” of his “nationalist campaign”.

Schulz has used posters telling Germans to vote for him if they want a German as EU Commission chief.

“Schulz betrayed all European principles,” Cohn-Bendit told Spiegel Online.

Meanwhile, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, a Socialist, has spoken out in favour of centre-right politician Jean-Claude Juncker becoming the next EU Commission president.

“The will of the voters is clear and should be taken seriously,” he told Der Standard after the centre-right European People’s Party won the most seats in the European Parliament.

  1. Calculator says:

A pity he doesn’t mention Muscat directly. Associating with with someone who employs populist and anti-democratic tactics like Muscat would surely demonstrate his point.

  2. observer says:

Daniel Cohn-Bendit is still obsessed that the world should be run on his lines and according to his dictates.

He has never realized that his 1968 street ‘revolution’ (I remember his being called ‘Red Daniel at the time) has never been successful.

Neither does he realize that it will never be if there are enough people around who genuinely seek and practise democracy.

Well apparently Schulz shot himself in the foot as many people switched allegiances on account of his comments on the eve of the election.

So the government pays over 4 million euros to some individuals to buy the Cafe Premier premises to “protect the valuable books upstairs from possible fires” …

…but then grants permission for a fashion show to be organised in the National Library itself:

Am I the only one who sees this as being a bit crazy/taghna lkoll

  5. Antoine Vella says:

One of the first votes that the 3 Labour MEPs will be taking will be to make EPP candidate, Juncker, president of the European Commission.

  6. Mario Tabone says:

This Daniel Cohn-Bendit is the European clone of our Arnold Cassola. Both greens in principle, but with a fogged mind.

In principle, I would prefer Schulz (a Socialist), but seeing that he is German, I prefer Beppe Grillo for president.

Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Boasting about his paedophile experiences in a kindergarten on a German TV talk show, and fighting actively with the Greens of Germany for the decriminalisation of paedophile acts has cost him and his party a huge vote loss in the last general elections. And rightfully so.

This guy deserves no respect whatsoever.

  8. Banana Republic .... again says:

As opposed to the Christian Democrats’ slogan on billboards with their leader (Angela Merkel) which, loosely translated, says: “Together we’ll achieve success in Europe”.

  9. Gahan says:

Issa l-prim ministru Malti m’għandux ħabib fuq min iserraħ.

Dalwaqt nisimgħu lil-Joseph jgħid “Viva Junker(la x-xitan irid hekk)!”

  10. J. Vella says:

It`s still an uphill struggle for Jean-Claude Juncker, though it would be very short-sighted and undemocratic of the Council of Ministers to disenfranchise the European electorate by nominating another person to the post of Commission President.

Thankfully, although that sour-faced poorly educated c**t, Martin Schultz has not conceded defeat, his candidature seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

  11. Fernando says:

54% of the Maltese electorate voted for a German EU Commission President

  12. A.Attard says:

Daniel Cohn-Bendit is widely accused of pedophilia not much to boast about our nice greens Arnold Cassola and co.

  13. J. Parnis says:

To quote Cohn-Bendit in order to get to Joseph Muscat, you really reached rock bottom!

[Daphne – Actually I’m quoting Der Spiegel.]
