Please get this straight
Cyrus Engerer and the Labour Party are doing their best to persuade people that he is the victim of political persecution. They want people to believe that the Nationalist Party in government instructed the police to prosecute him.
Enough with such ignorance of how these things work.
Engerer was investigated and prosecuted AT THE SPECIFIC REQUEST OF HIS VICTIM, a private person who had suffered harm at his hand.
It was his victim, and not any Nationalist Party boss or member of the Nationalist government, who went to the police and filed a formal complaint against Engerer, with a request for action.
The Nationalist Party didn’t even come into it – so much so that they didn’t even have a clue what was going on because neither Engerer nor his lawyer Franco Debono saw fit to inform them, though they were morally and ethically (and even, I suspect, procedurally) obliged to do so.
What are Engerer and the Labour Party suggesting here – that it was in the Nationalist government’s power to stop the investigation and prosecution and that they should have abused of that power to instruct the police not to take action and to ignore the complaint of Engerer’s victim?
Yes, going on what they are doing now, they probably do think that.

Let us not forget that the court of magistrates had acquitted Cyrus Engerer.
At that time, Engerer did not complain of any persecution.
Why is he complaining now that the court of appeal has overturned the decision of the first court? He wouldn’t be complaining had the court of appeal confirmed the first court’s decision.
As things stand, considering the late u turns by a certain candidate, I’m wondering which is the bigger favour, whether it is giving up one’s parliamentary seat or writing a biography.
Yes, he ‘announced’ his campaign only this morning, Muscat was there.
And did you see his logo, it says cuschieri JOSEPH, in large friendly letters.
We know who had the greater liability, leaving him powerless.
One should make more of exposing the mindset that supposedly wrote the biography.
It seems to me that Engerer’s defence counsel, Franco Debono, truly nailed him by showing the pen-drive in court, claiming there are more similar obscene pictures, just in case.
Any shred of doubt which could have been lingering in court was blown away at that point, but still the magistrate acquitted him. The Appeals Court judge thought otherwise.
