The Labour Party sent this email to public officers, on their government email account, last night

Published: May 23, 2014 at 9:17am

Several public officers contacted me last night to report that they had received the following email from the Labour Party, on their government email account, between 8pm and 9pm.

I had just received the same email myself at 8.30pm. Given that most public officers (or most people generally) do not check their emails after 8pm, the Labour Party’s idea here was to be covered by the law in not sending out political propaganda today, but yet ensuring that people read it today all the same.

Since they are that keen, I should be fair and impartial and give them a helping hand in spreading it around to a wider audience. This video was embedded in the email.

And I have to ask, as many others will be doing: how exactly has this government improved Malta and made it “more European”, when it is essentially anti-European, when the person speaking in the video fought tooth and claw against EU membership, and when he is dispatching to the European Parliament, with his blessing, his anti-EU-membership mentor?

You don’t make a country more European by selling Enemalta’s assets for cash which you then use to subsidise electricity tariffs.

You don’t make a country more contemporarily European by adopting a scorched-earth policy towards those who don’t agree with you while rewarding ‘collaborators’. That’s European, yes, but it is most certainly not contemporary. It is ancient.

    Truly European medieval despotism.

  2. Helene says:

Many young and not so young people have the opportunity to work/study abroad thanks to the Nationalist government which fought hard for EU membership on their behalf, while Joseph Muscat was at the forefront of the campaign to keep them confined to Malta with none of those opportunities.

And the thank you for that is that some of these people who are a maximum of four hours away can’t be bothered to travel home, at a reduced airfare, for a day to vote. My respect and thanks to all those who have taken their voting rights responsibly and have made that effort.

    “Give us the courage”?

More like Lord, give me strength.

    • Last Post says:

Yes, that’s because as from Monday he will need a boost to give his 200% (presumably as against his current 100%) to continue improving the country’s welfare. That’s his own words.

Isn’t he in government? Shouldn’t he be encouraging us?

Why is he all and only about himself?

      • Last Post says:

Because, as Daphne said, he’s on an ego-trip. He knows he’ll win this election but he wants the largest majority possible (even if only percentage-wise).

That’s why he wanted it as a direct contest between him and Simon Busuttil and urges his supporters to prove “once again” that we are the best in Europe.

Joseph Muscat has absolutely no ethical or moral principles. He lies left, right and centre.

He abuses power and runs roughshod over everyone.

He is not immoral. He is amoral.

I hope that the people who voted him in, and I’m not referring to the traditional Labour supporters, are aware that all his actions and those of his ministers are nothing short of those that take place in communist countries. Absolutely disgusting and dishonest.

In the past weeks I’ve been receiving spam SMS from FZL (PL’s youth group). Thankfully, I managed to block these.

Also received several calls (from blocked number) asking whether I need something on election Saturday. They laughed when I asked for someone to do my shopping, pay for it, do the cooking, washing and cleaning. I don’t think they’ll cater for that request.

Yesterday I received an SMS by Charlon Gouder. So did my colleagues at work and none of us ever contacted him, so he must have gathered our numbers from somewhere without our authorisation. The message read:

“Bil-mod ta’ kif jifhem lil EU, jifhem lin-nies u jifhem lill-pajjiz, Charlon Gouder jista jkun ta’ kontibut tajjeb hafna ghall-pajjizna fil-PE — Joseph Muscat”

Sur Charlon Gouder, la tifhem daqshekk, tista tifhem ukoll li biex gibt in-numru tieghi ma hadtx awtorizzazzjoni tieghi u ghalhekk ksirt id-Data Protection? Tista tifhem li m’ghandix bzonn l-SMS tieghek? Tista tifhem meta nghidlek tibghatlix aktar? Tista tifhem li anke lilek, imblokkajtek.

How does the Labour Party have the e-mail addresses of government employees?

    • Ivan says:

How does the Labour Party have my personal mobile number? Data protection, my foot.

    • Calculator says:

Because the Labour Party is the government. Didn’t you get the memo?

    • Tom Double Thumb says:

The government got your (and mine and everybody else’s) email address according to the new meaning of certain Maltese words (see other post). According to the new Malta- Taghna-Lkoll Dictionary:

Trasparenza kienet tfisser “il-Gvern jahdem fil-mftuh u kulhadd ikun jaf x’inhu jaghmel il-Gvern”.

Issa Trasparenza tfisser “Il-Gvern ikun jaf kollox xi jkun jaghmel kulhadd waqt li jahbi xi jkun jaghmel il-Gvern.”

  7. Sv says:

A video of Joseph Muscat and Alfred Sant campaigning against Malta joining the EU could have been appropriate on this page together with this propaganda

  8. smiley says:

Hope they had the correct email adresses of all those who were transferred.

I’m seriously becoming very concerned. State and Party mixed up, reminiscent of China. But why is that not surprising.

  10. Neil says:

I SOOO hope that somebody calls me tomorrow, to offer me voting day aid. They’ll definitely be sorry they dialed my number.

We’ll be at the polling station, no problem. We tend not to vote in the EU elections (or local councils) so ours wiil be 3 ‘new’ votes this time around and I hop there are a lot more like us, voting to ‘send a message’.

Our only quandary is which of the PN candidates will get our ‘1’ vote.

  11. Joe Fenech says:

Could have been true . Malta has just become surreal.

  12. Mike says:

How dare he called me friend?

He is not my friend, nor am I his. All he did was put me in an office, giving me nothing to do!

  13. Aunt Hetty says:

Making Malta” more European” for Joseph Muscat means hugging and kissing in public, a gay convicted pornographer, giving kids for adoption to gay couples and awarding top marks to a male singer who tarts himself up like a woman whilst sporting a fake flowing beard.

  14. ursula says:

The uncollected voting documents come mostly from traditionally PN districts – what is happening, are people going insane?

  15. M. Cassar says:

Repeating a lie till one is blue in the face still does not make it true does it?

  16. AE says:

Let’s be more specific – Selling Enemalta’s assets to China certainly doesn’t make it more European.

I still would have hated it had they sold out to Germany, but at least that’s keeping it within the continent at least.
