The prime minister is not supporting or backing Cyrus Engerer
Be clear on that. He is supporting and backing his own decision to take Cyrus Engerer on in the first place.
Acknowledging the judgement of the Appeals Court and its implications would mean an admission that his decision to accept Engerer in the first place, when he was already under prosecution, and then push him to the front of the Labour Party, was wrong.
Muscat would then have to admit to poor judgement or, worse, to cynical calculation that ignored the values of right and wrong and focussed only on what served his electoral purposes.
In championing and celebrating Engerer yesterday evening, and ‘baptising him a soldier of steel’, Muscat was not rescuing Engerer but protecting himself, his original decision to lift Engerer onto his bandwagon, and his continued decisions since 2011 to make Engerer one of the Labour Party’s front-runners and then give him a job in the deputy prime minister’s private secretariat.
Muscat does not act – ever – to protect other people. His sole and ultimate concern, in any action, is ultimately or directly the self.
Some are saying now that when Engerer becomes inconvenient to Muscat, he will drop him. That is not going to happen. Engerer is already extremely inconvenient to Muscat. But by dropping him, Muscat will have to admit – and be seen to admit – error of judgement, and he is literally unable to do that.
Look at the way he can’t even bring himself to admit that he was wrong about Malta joining the European Union. Have you ever heard him say the words: “I was wrong. Now I can see that those who voted Yes were right, and joining the European Union was good for Malta.” No, you have not.

Daphne, does this behaviour apply also in John Dalli’s case?
Absolutely correct.
The prime minister is backing and supporting himself.
He got himself into one of those several cul-de-sacs which he designed on his ‘roadmap’ and now that he is at the deep end of it, he has realised that he cannot get out, and is resorting to mirrors to convince himself that there is an exit right ahead.
Captain Hindsight is at it once again.
“cul de sac”…very appropriate term in this particular case I’m sure..
What is Gabi calleja of the MGRM going to do now? One of the heroes and champions of the gay community has been found guilty of distributing gay revenge porn which can be classified also as a homophobic attack. Where does the MGRM stand now?
In blush and tongue-tied land.
Let’s see it from the victim’s perspective.
MGRM have a duty to come out publicly and make a clear statement in defence of the victim of this case and of similar cases which may go unreported because, as has been proven in this case, the victims fear further deceptive threats.
MGRM should make sure to include in its statement an encouragement to all LGBT victims of porn revenge to report their case to the police and seek justice through the “independent institutions” whose independence is guaranteed by the prime minister Joseph Muscat.
Finally MGRM should condemn all politicians who fail to condemn LGBT porn revenge and who fail to shoulder political responsibility for their association with anyone found guilty of it.
Jees, do I have to write their press release?
Forget about Gabi Calleja since she is part and parcel of the MLP regime. However, what about Aditus and why are they silent on this homophobic crime?
Here we go. He started pointing fingers. That’s the only way he knows how to defend himself.
“The Prime Minister was also asked about former MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer, who withdrew his candidature after he was given a two-year suspended jail term for distributing porn and said that accepting someone found guilty of criminal charges within your fold did not mean he condoned what he did.
The PN, he said, has two MPs who were found guilty of criminal offences but he did not think that this meant that the Opposition leader condoned their criminal behaviour.”

Let some weeks go by, and no one will be asking about Cyrus Engerer. THE CIVIL UNION HAS PASSED AND SO HE IS NOT NEEDED ANYMORE. TRASH TO TRASH.
” … (He) he can’t even bring himself to admit that he was wrong …” reminds the older readers of another bloated politician who never admitted that he could be wrong (even while wrecking his country) plastering its walls with the slogan “Il Duce ha sempre ragione”.
He met a sad end hanging head downwards by his heels with his paramour from a lampost in Milan.
‘..But by dropping him, Muscat will have to admit – and be seen to admit – error of judgement, and he is literally unable to do that…’
Which makes it even worse. But that I suppose, is tradition in Labour.
Just as Muscat is defending his own poor judgement rather than Engerer himself, switchers are refusing to admit their poor judgement in voting PL when, even today, they insist on defending Muscat.
Martin Scicluna comes to mind. And has anyone heard anything lately from Kenneth Zammit Tabona?
