Things are about to get really complicated for the chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology
Just as I knew she would (and good for her, quite frankly), Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando’s second wife – already back to her maiden name Carmen Ciantar less than 18 months after taking the catastrophic decision to marry him when he was at his worst and most unstable – is back in the Labour Party with a bang and showing every sign of determination to get whatever it is she wants now.
And far from being ostracised by the party because of her husband’s malign influence against her, the party bosses are pushing her out to the front. She was sitting there dressed in red, a prominently selected member of the ‘keynote speakers panel’ at the centre of yesterday’s Labour Party set-up under the tent in Marsascala.
In other words, she has been metaphorically seated at the prime minister’s right hand, in just the sort of power-play game we have come to expect of the prime minister, who uses subtle and not-so-subtle public humiliation to keep his chess pieces moving as he wants them to (or not) across the board.
First he subjected Godfrey Farrugia, for whom Pullicino Orlando’s first wife left him, to a sustained exercise of public humiliation in his role as Health Minister and then his removal from it, to satisfy Pullicino Orlando. And now, having given Pullicino Orlando what he wanted, he is going to move to the next step of humiliating him by promoting the second wife who left him because he cheated on her.
I look at the situation and I see a mess. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando has two ex wives who hate his guts and one current girlfriend, all working in the Labour Party: one of them is a member of parliament, and another two are Labour government appointees.
I wonder how the prime minister’s social secretary manages the guest list.

I get the ever-increasing impression that Muscat really is a sadistic bastard. He seems to get his jollies by humiliating the people around him, and people gave him even more power to do that with their vote last year.
I mean, seriously, what has he done this last year? All we have heard of is him disregarding pre-electoral pledges of meritocracy and transparency, giving people and China iced buns and pledged booty, disregarding any and all ethics, standards and norms to ‘make the most of it’ and playing his supposed comrades against each other. V-18? Totally wasted as well.
Investment and commercial activity are declining and unemployment is rising.
At least someone like JPO is getting what’s coming to him as his world implodes. All I wish is that we all didn’t have to suffer in the process as well.
Ding dong. O f course Muscat is a sadistic bastard. This was never about political vision for Malta. Didn’t you notice he doesn’t have any, though he keeps saying he does? It’s all about him.
I never doubted that. It’s just that I underestimated how interlinked his egoism and sadism are.
I had thought he humiliated people as part of a strategy to keep himself in power by eliminating potential rivals.
That’s a pretty twisted way of doing things in and of itself. But now I’m pretty convinced he actually enjoys the humiliation he dishes out at a very personal level.
It’s a case of ‘his fans are going to hit the shit’
This is your life.
