All big, fat, savage and vulgar bullies are essentially cowards

The prime minister’s SPECIAL envoy to the World Tourism Organisation (the judiciously placed capital letters are Joe Grima’s own) removed his crass and threatening disparagement of the human rights organisation Aditus from his Facebook Timeline soon after I highlighted it on this website (see earlier post).

He also removed a xenophobic and Islamophobic post, which I did not have the presence of mind to capture immediately I saw it, and which I did not write about – demonstrating that somebody else must have pointed its inadvisability out to him, or that even he was able to work it out for himself.

That post of his showed two women in heavy burkhas, with the words ‘In-nisa Maltin dalwaqt’ or similar.

The prime minister really needs to clamp down hard and make it clear to representatives of the state and of his government that certain views, given their position, can never be held to be personal and bring their official role and function into grave disrepute.

The prime minister’s office should issue clear guidelines to all those people on how to manage their presence on Facebook. People in that position should not have a personal profile with ‘friends’ on which they give vent to their ‘personal’ views, but either nothing at all or a Facebook PAGE with FOLLOWERS, tightly managed and scrutinised by aides, with posts that are strictly relevant to their public role.

People like Joe Grima need to understand that when they mouth off in public and in writing for all the world to see, attacking a human rights organisation, attacking the suggestion that non-EU immigrants should vote, and manifesting Islamophobic sentiments that are also distinctly misogynistic, it is not Joe Grima doing that, but the prime minister of Malta’s SPECIAL envoy to the World Tourism Organisation.

Savage brutes like Joe Grima do not understand this distinction innately. He is one of the oldest extant dinosaurs from the Mintoff era and civilisation, democracy, good manners, proper behaviour and discretion have to be spelled out to him in a detailed instruction manual.

It is bad enough that the prime minister appointed him in the first place, knowing that he is way too old, far too obese to travel by air (which is why he has a disabled parking space outside his flat), too out of date to know what is going on, and far too brutish and vulgar to be expected to behave correctly.

Now the least the prime minister can do is act to contain the worst of Joe Grima’s crassness, vulgarity and instinctive desire to attack and suppress anything and anyone he does not agree with.

And if the Prime Minister finds it impossible “to contain the worst of Joe Grima’s crassness” he should try to give him a good hug (very difficult, that) and transfer him to the brigade of ancient, overage, and overweight, MLP soldiers of steel in the same way that over age retired British soldiers are posted to the Tower of London as Yoemen of the Guard tourism attraction.

Please allow me to use language that Mr. Grima might understand.

Well, Mr. Grima was always a fat f*ck and age has not done him any favours. He is an anachronism in contemporary public life. It is indeed a shame that Muscat (who is another fat shmuck in the making) and his progressive, feminist, liberal and egalitarian government have any association with people like this and who, for lack of spine, are unable to condemn them to the dustin of history where they so very well belong.

Talk about starting off in life with a handicap.

And proceeding with it all through life.

And having the whole of the government in charge in the same position.

How frustrating to get stuck on the basics, on having to explain and get stuck at these countless barriers because they all don’t know better, and the ones that should are using them, pandering to them and milking them.

    And the country with it.
