Head of state is Facebook friend of man undergoing trial in triple ‘cocaine’ murder case
Public figures (and their social media assistants) really need to be more careful whose Facebook friends requests they accept in their rabid search for popularity or the semblance of it.
In some cases, you just have to ask whether they can be so completely oblivious to names, identities and the ramifications of being listed among the Facebook friends of really unsavoury individuals.
Ronald Urry, one of the men being prosecuted in an exceptionally brutal triple murder case involving two cocaine dealers and a ‘taxi driver’, has just 53 Facebook friends.
Because the list is so very short, everybody on it is both conspicuous and significant. This includes Carmen Ciantar, chief exective officers of state utilities billing agency ARMS Ltd; Joe Grima, the government’s envoy to the World Tourism Organisation; and, most embarrassingly, the head of state, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
The list also includes, interestingly, Jeremy Portelli, the pseudo-hunter who, in league with the Labour Party and its television station in the last general election, accosted Simon Busuttil on the campaign trail in Paola and began challenging him about the suffering of hunters at the hands of the nefarious Nationalist Party. The mother of Portelli’s child is a sister and daughter to two of the murdered Camilleri cocaine dealers.

“Tell me whose company you keep and I’ll tell you who you are.”
One of the ‘don’t worry, vote Lorry crew’ from way back in the 80s. Spent time on the straight and narrow before getting back in trouble.
The President needs to be very careful with respect to who is posting what on her Facebook page.
For example, this:
“Alby J Mamo: the best thing that can happen to these illegal ferals invaders is to tow them back to sea or simply load on a plane off they go to where the hell they came from
20 May at 17:57”
I am astounded that a Head of State allows that sort of dialogue to be published on their Facebook page (whether public or private) for the world to see.
Is this her own opinion on migrants or what ?

It’s ridiculous that politicians in Malta have Facebook profiles at all! They should have Facebook PAGES updated by staff which people can follow.
That eliminates the confusion and awkwardness of voters thinking that they are ‘friends’ with politicians or the head of state, because their friend request was accepted.
Considering Facebook is so popular on this island you’d think that most people, particularly those in the public eye, would have figured out how to use it correctly.
