Malta’s Envoy to the World Tourism Organisation is laying into the human rights organisation Aditus on his Facebook timeline

The human rights organisation, Aditus, said yesterday that non-EU immigrants who have been granted the right to live and work in Malta should also have the right to vote in local council elections.

Aditus is right. The best way to ensure that people in this highly vulnerable group are no longer abused by politicians, political parties and their supporters is to start the race for their vote.

It is also one of the best ways to ensure that there is a sense of involvement and that people do not feel like outsiders in the place they have no choice but to make their home.

But that is not the point here. That point is that Joe Grima, an aggressive and vulgar savage who had no problem forming part of a government that routinely violated human rights and oppressed an entire country in the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s, should never have been appointed, in his dotage, the Maltese government’s special envoy to anything, let alone the World Tourism Organisation.

The man has always been unfit for purpose, has no sense of what is appropriate, and was always going to let the country down. He has no idea that in his position he shouldn’t be ripping up a human rights organisation on Facebook or making anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, xenophobic statements in public. Nor should he be having those atavistic thoughts in private. People who think that way should not be appointed to that sort of position, where they can only cause embarrassment.

Unfortunately, this really exposes the manipulative pragmatism of the Labour leader, and the way people allowed themselves to be suckered into it. When an eminent British priest who was raised in Malta during the Mintoff era wrote a relatively tame piece about Mintoff a few days after his death two years ago, Joe Grima took to Facebook and called him a paedophile and more in a volley of obscene language.

Joseph Muscat’s reaction? He asked Grima to resign from his show on the Labour Party’s television station. This was just a mise-en-scene because the general election was around the corner and he wanted to look good with electors from the same social background at the British priest in question, many of whom knew him at school.

But just a few months later, when he was safely in power, Muscat didn’t allow Joe Grima to have his TV show back. No, instead he rewarded and compensated him for toeing the line when requested to do so in the interest of votes – and appointed him to the far more significant post of Malta’s envoy to the World Tourism Organisation. So it’s all right, after all, to call a priest a paedophile and tell him to go f**k himself for mildly criticising Dom Mintoff.

The best part is when he says ‘pajjiz u poplu civilizzat bi storja kristjana’, and coming from him! Go on the VivaMalta or Daqshekk Ghall-Immigrazzjoni f’Malta facebook pages to see how Christian and civilized Malta is.

Bin-nies below IQ level li jsegwuk titnejjek Sur Grima, imma bina le. L-unika sfortuna hi li ta l-ewwel huma fil-maggoranza assoluta, int inkluz.

When the reign of terror of the 70s and 80s came to an end, Labour-leaning friends of mine put much of the blame for Labour losing the elections on Lorry Sant and Joe Grima because they were “hniezer iz-zejjed”.

Seeing what Grima wrote on FB I have to add that he is also very, very stupid.

    • Rumplestiltskin says:

The key word here is “iz-zejjed.” I suppose the reasoning here was that it would have been acceptable if they were just “hniezer.”

  3. moi says:

Here’s another one, Joe Grima: spare yourself (more than) a few calories daily, and feed a few immigrants with your surplus food.

  4. Betty says:

YOUR TIME WAS THEN, you lackey. You are still ingrained in your bully arrogant mentality of the Lorry Sant days when you wanted to keep the pigs’ trough only for yourself and your like.

You went at that trough even between 1981 and 1987 when your sick party had won fewer votes from the electorate than the PN did.

You have learnt nothing since then and instead of keeping your mouth shut you use the old rubbish of “xewwiexa” and “Malta l-ewwel u qabel kollox”.

Read the full report and learn how things can be discussed in a civilised manner.

As for your traditional and family values, you are no shining example, are you.

  5. bernie says:

if anyone has to get lessons about democracy, it surely couldn’t come from Joe Grima.

  6. RC says:

It-tieni wahda vera tad-dahq. Mela l-ewwel qed li gej minn “pajjiz u poplu civilizzat u demokratiku” umbaghad jghajjar lil Neil Falzon traditur u jridu jispicca f’Detention Centre talli esprima l-opinjoni tieghu.

Civilizzat u demokratiku ta vera eh!

  7. Joe Fenech says:

There is clearly enormous confusion between refugees and illegal immigrants.

As to Grima: what he and others are really worried of is competition and loss of privileges. ‘Immigrants’ are an easy target easily, but this scum would eliminate most of the Maltese if they could. This is nothing new – Malta’s seen this behaviour in the past coming from the Church.

    • Spock says:

How and when has the Church targeted immigrants and tried to eliminate most of the Maltese if they could ? Couldn’t find it in my history books .

    • Chris M says:

Refugees and illegal immigrants are the same thing. Bottom line is that they came here illegally without documentation and that they are not wanted by the majority of the Maltese.

[Daphne – You are very confused. They are most definitely not the same: a refugee is by definition not an illegal immigrant.]

‘he rewarded and compensated him for toeing the line when requested to do so in the interest of votes – and appointed him to the far more significant post of Malta’s envoy to the World Tourism Organisation.’

I have a feeling that Muscat is also using Joe Grima to win back disgruntled MLP supporters who voted Lowell.

If it backfires he will simply sacrifice or recycle Grima as he has done with others.

For Joseph Muscat anyone but himself is a pawn to be used or misused at whim.

The three R’s in Joseph Muscat’s ECO programme are Reuse, Recycle or Reject.

  9. pacikk says:

How right you are. Muscat did not want to lose one single vote before the election, and therefore promised compensating rewards for toeing the party line.

    No wonder a 36k difference.

  10. Peritocracy says:

Joe Grima’s comments are dumb, but so is the thought that irregular immigrants will ever be given a vote in any Maltese anything. Even if that were to happen, Joseph Muscat would just buy them off with one of his tricks.

I think pushing this vote idea is counterproductive and will only serve to deepen the resentment the Maltese have for immigrants. Just look at the comments in the papers and you’ll see what I mean.

  11. Bobby says:

Joseph Muscat is too young to remember Joe Grima banging and slamming on the back of a truck with other Mintoffian savages, or punching a Xandir Malta (or was it Telemalta?) employee in the face, and his Mintoffian grandmother must have told him it was all lies.

  12. Manuel says:

“The man has always been unfit for purpose, has no sense of what is appropriate…” And I should add that he neither possesses a sense of proportion.

  13. Jozef says:

Absolutely stunning how he manages to take all the right ingredients and turn them into something horribly bad.

Nobody wants terrorists, fundamentalists or people out of work with immigrants exploited by local ‘businessmen’ Joe Grima.

But as long as these immigrants interest no-one, the GWU will blackmail abuse, taking a cut to close an eye and cry foul to skin colour at the same time.

  14. etil says:

To Muscat anything justify the means. About time people understood what Muscat is all about. He is a pragmatic person, solely interested in himself/ego, and if it means giving the natives all they want to garner votes and keep himself in government, he will do it. To give him his due he does not go about it in a discreet manner at all. If people want, I will give – anything to keep them happy even if it is a 2 cents decrease in the price of petrol.

  15. Mister says:

Konrad “Shame on you” has finally found the time to send our utilities bill and its full of Bullshit!

My bill is more expensive than before. Using the same dates, same consumption and same everything…. the old ARMS rate calculator says I should be charged 20 Euros less than with these new rates. The new rates calculator doesnt even match the bill which I was sent!

The only people receiving cheaper bills are the one’s rigging their meters….. the rest of us will be paying even more for our utilities!! And the powerstations have been sold….so whats to stop them from hiking up the prices in the future?!

The Cheats at ARMS sent me two bills in the same envelope…. one bill appearantly didnt qualify for ECO reduction, whilst they printed another bill ( for another 2 days ) and gave me 0.65c eco reduction on that. Who do they think they are fooling? Just so that I cannot say that ECO reduction has been removed…. they send me a bill rigged to show some savings ?!

Check your bills people! WE ARE GETTING SHAFTED !

Some Labour supporters are now complaining on facebook that their PV Panel readings are not being deducted from their electricity bill…. whilst they get overcharged without ECO reduction and HAVE to pay that bill. ARMS is not paying for the electricity the customers are feeding to the grid. The response they get from their fellow Labour friends ? ” Tihom cans…. ilna biss sena fil-Gvern. ”

    Konrad – Shame on you!

  16. observer says:

Of all the intolerance shown in the face-book crap, I was particularly struck by the ‘piece de resistance’ when Grima speaks of ‘il-valuri intrinsici li jaghmlu (Malta) …. pajjiz u poplu civilizzat u demokratiku bi storja kristjana millenja (sic)’.

It’s a pity that hardly any of the UK or the USA marines can understand Maltese. .

As if Grima, with his political record, could appoint himself as the champion of a democratic and civilized Maltese nation imbued by a millennial Christian history.

I translated the gist specifically for the benefit of those illieterate Marines.

  17. CiVi says:

What an outburst. It is so stupefying that people find it in themselves to share such ghastly thoughts.

Doesn’t Mr. Grima realize that as time goes by the world is all the more becoming but one nation?

Has it never happened that people make their homes in countries other than their homeland?

Haven’t the Maltese way back in years emigrated in hundreds of thousands to other countries to make a living? Do we deem ourselves such a superior untouchable race?

    • Chris M says:

Maltese emigrated legally, through the proper channels and with the proper documents.

      Illegal immigrants do not.

[Daphne – They most definitely did not. Shiploads of Maltese people were left outside Sydney harbour in the 1950s because the immigrant quota for ‘coloured people’ had been filled. Many Maltese of my generation emigrated illegally: flew out on a tourist visa and overstayed. Immigrant quotas and immigrant permits are fairly recent things. Before World War II, you just shipped yourself out, got off the boat on Ellis Island, were fumigated, and stayed.]

  18. confused says:

Mr. Grima should get his facts right. ‘Id detention’ is not in Marsa.

Hello, who is that in the photo on ‘My time is Now’? Well it certainly isn’t Mr. Grima NOW. He is by far double that size today and that was his face 30 years ago.

  19. Carmel Mallia says:

If those MPs get their way, this is another one who will become The Honourable Joe Grima for what remains of his life.

  20. David says:

Thousands of Maltese if not a majority of Maltese share Mr Grima’s views.

    • Chris M says:

The majority share his views. Even the thought of allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote is just crazy and out of this world.

[Daphne – I missed the bit where Aditus says that illegal immigrants should have the vote. Where did you read it? They said that migrants should have the vote – in other words, the legal ones, with ID cards. Illegal migrants do not have ID cards and so can’t vote.]

    • Rumplestiltskin says:

Thousands of Germans agreed with Hitler’s views at the time. Did that make them right?

  21. Superman says:

I was at a local council celebration and I overheard three Maltese men talking about a black man who just passed. They mentioned Aditus’s proposal as if it would be the end of the world.

They were full of hatred against this black man as if he wasn’t a human being at all.

    Shame on us.
