Never mind his criminal conviction for fraud and the fact that Gozo Minister Anton Refalo knew about it when he appointed him

Gozo Sports Board

The real issue here is: should the chairman of the Gozo Sports Board be a hugely obese man? Or is the Maltese definition of a sportsman ‘somebody who sits on the sofa and watches football’?

With the salary he carries he can eat his heart out. X’ma jkunx Obese.

Well, if Stefan Buontempo could be the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport ….

  3. H.P. Baxxter says:

How dare you attack this family man etc. Maybe he is overweight but he is hardworking etc. Some of my best friends are fatties etc.

  4. Tal-Madum says:

With all due respect, not every sports calls for the slim and lean. I trust he’s the new Gozitan Sumo Rising Star.

  5. Toni tat-Trukk says:

    Exactly my thoughts.

Placing a fat blob as chairman (of all posts !) of the sports board really drives the message home in favour of healthy sports.

    Is-sumo taghna lkoll.

  7. Peritocracy says:

No wonder bocci is our national ‘sport’. The only requirements are that you chug one beer after the other, stoop only just as far as the biggest of paunches will allow and toss your bowl with a little flick of the wrist.

    X’ma jitlaqx mill-posta b’erbghin elf fis-sena issa…!

Xi trid tgħid biha, gorg? — daħka kretina bħal dik! Daħka ta’ BAĦBUĦ li tagħmlu popolari mal-bqija tal-bħaħen moderni u progressivi li bil-vot taghhom (u anke minghajru) ma jaraw xejn ħażin fl-għoti ta’ karigi bħal dawn lil min ma jixraqxlux sempliċiment għax m’hux addattat.

L-aqwa li ma jkunx xi hadd li jispikka fil-qasam tiegħu imma li jkollu l-inqas tendenzi ta’ simpatija lejn in-nazzjonalisti. Hemmhekk tgħidx kemm jissemmew bażużli, ħbieb-tal-ħbieb, nepotiżmu politiku u l-bqija. Dan hu dettall fil-hajja politika imma juri bl-iktar mod car, flimkien mal-bizibilju kazi simili li rajna, il-mod ta’ tmexxija bazwija tal-Lejber.

      Gawdi issa, Gahan Malti.

  10. Joe Fenech says:

This government is collecting people with a criminal conviction: Natius Farrugia, Cyrus Engerer and now this one.

  11. Francis Saliba M.D. says:

Judging from the Cyrus Engerer and the Elvin Grech cases the real issue here is whether a criminal conviction actually increases the chances of being accepted by the Muscat government as “meritorious” to hold important positions in government.

  12. Gaetano Pace says:

God bless his soul, Colin Cauchi, was a sports enthusiast, was a Gozitan and as conspicuous as Elvin. Apparently some Gozo firm is producing them by the dozen.

  13. H.P. Baxxter says:

Why does a country this minuscule even need a separate sports board for Gozo? Will Simon Busuttil perpetuate this sort of nonsense after 2018?

    • Joe Fenech says:

Busuttil will not be in office in 2018. That is the reality. The PL would be in full bashing mode and the people trodden over “imma la dan partit taghna ic-cildrins allawins, irridu nivvutawlu”.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

I have to say that you’re not helping with your anti-EU slant. It provides fodder for Labour’s jingoism.

      • Joe Fenech says:

That’s the truth, Baxxter. I am not only pro-EU but am an avid federalist. The solution for Malta lies in the hands of Brussels not the PN’s who is clearly too weak to match PL’s brutality.

  14. Joe Fenech says:

It needs a separate sports board in the same way villages each want a festa (instead of a festa tad-distrett), a church, 2 band clubs, 2 fireworks factories and now a mayor, a council and council offices!
