Isn’t the new Commissioner of Police, Ray Zammit, a cousin of sorts of the Police and Army Minister?

  1. Peritocracy says:

Manuel and Raymond. Man Ray. So surreal!

  2. ron says:

    Taghhom lkoll.

  3. Joe Fenech says:

    The Fabergé dynasty?

  4. Alf says:

If I am not mistaken the announcement made was that Ray Zammit, cousin of Manwel Mallia, was appointed ACTING Commissioner of Police “while a reorganisation across various levels of the police force is carried out”.

  5. observer says:

Let’s hope he has learned from his predecessor’s mistakes.

He is sure to have the prime minister breathing down his neck – seeing that it was Mallia’s choice which won the day, not Muscat’s.

  6. Be-witched says:

Police Commissioner number 3 in just over a year and 4 months.

It’s like the French Revolution here…King/Leader today, beheaded tomorrow…that or Henry VIII’s wives. Take your pick. I wouldn’t take that particular job for anything: kulhadd bil-banda hareg minn fuqu dak is-siggu.

    • RF says:

Under Labour since Mintoff, Commissioners of Police do not last long. We all remember Alfred Bencini, Edward Bencini, Enoch Tonna, John Cachia, Lawrence Pullicino. None enhanced his reputation by the end of his term.

  7. ciccio says:

An “all in the family jamboree” situation is emerging here.

Time for Mallia to step down or be dismissed?

    • curious says:

Mallia will never be made to step down, unless he wants to do it himself and for his own reasons.

    • Timon of Athens says:

There will never be a time for that. He’s got the P.M literally by the balls.

      • Jozef says:

So he does, every red Laburista hates what Mallia represents, voted worst minister every poll, and yet, his hold on this cabinet goes beyond his portfolio.

  8. botom says:

I am reminded yet once again of the children’s TV serial Barney. The opening song of Barney goes “I love you. You love me. We’re a happy family”.

  9. Matt says:

What a disgrace. How can the public stand for this? The media is failing the people by not putting pressure on Muscat for this egregious abuse of power.

    • C Borg says:

And what is Muscat going to do. By now it should have been made clear that he is not the one pulling the strings.

  10. Bebbuxu says:

It seems that Mallia has a hold – a good hold- on Muscat

  11. wacko says:

This is Labour’s idea of meritocracy. Do they even know how to spell the word?

  12. Gahan says:

    Il-fula bint il-miżwet, u ir-razza dejjem tiġbed.

  13. M says:

Their GPS must have had yet another hitch. Roadmap, what roadmap?

  14. Alf says:

Ray Zammit, a relative of Manuel Mallia, is commonly known as “Il-Mulej” – very adaptable for the Police Force’s motto of “Domine Dirige Nos”.

  15. Bebbuxu says:

I think it does not matter any more who the Police Commissioner is; Mallia pulls the strings and the puppets answer

  16. Cultured pearl says:

So much for that word which most people never understood: meritocracy. That died ages ago. Today we have the real Labour Party again, one that is based on cronyism and not capability, one which will lead this country straight into the wall.

  17. T. Cassar says:

And in the mean time in the health sphere, the director of nursing at Mater Dei Hospital, who was hand picked without a call for applications and who made a leap of some 4 promotions to get the post, is to be replaced by someone else who was hand picked without a call for applications. Will it be another instance of grade hopping?

That is if the comments on TOM are anything to go by:
