“At around 3:15pm, Dalli came to the office to ask for a meeting of all the Cabinet staff in the Cabinet room. He said, ‘We have a big problem. I need to speak to my wife. I have to see about my allowances, my pension’.”

Imagine that – you have been accused of corruption and your first thought is about allowances and pension? FFS this speaks volumes. It is akin to a murderer sitting down to breakfast minutes after taking someone’s life.

    Game, set and match!

  2. Kevin says:

By associating himself with the likes of Dalli, Muscat is tying a noose around his neck. One day the noose will tighten and bring Muscat down. It is inevitable. “Live by the sword, die by the sword”

  3. Manuel says:

“Joanna Darmanin, Mr Dalli’s former head of cabinet, is now testifying. Following the meeting with Mr Barroso, Mr Dalli informed her that “we have a problem,” and he needed to call his wife.”

And we all that he first phoned Joseph Muscat rather than his wife or Dr. Lawrence Gonzi.

    Lies, lies and more lies.

  4. bob-a-job says:

I’ve got a name for the group surrounding Joe Muscat.

    Skip That.

  5. Libertas says:

Not even MaltaStarToday.com could hide how deeply embarrassing today’s session at the European Court of Justice was for BS’s (Balzan Saviour) idol DJ (Dalli John).

  6. canon says:

Does it mean that John Dalli is not going to get his one euro as compensation?

  7. La Redoute says:

Barroso says he’s a victim of slander. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/140707/barroso-tells-court-he-victim-slander

Requena could say the same. So can Kessler, Gonzi, and Busuttil.

Wouldn’t it be just lovely if everyone Dalli has insulted, smeared and implicated in wrongdoing sued him to kingdom come for libel and slander?

  8. Nighthawk says:

    Ganni l-hafi:

“we have a problem, I need to contact my wife. I need to see about my rights. My allowances and whether I have a pension”

  9. botom says:

Let us not forget that the first person John Dalli phoned after he was sacked/forced to resign was Joseph Muscat who at that time was Leader of the Opposition. As the Maltese saying goes “kien diga qed jiekol il-kirxa mieghu”

  10. La Redoute says:

    Dalli’s swimming trunks go global.

    http://www.independent.com.mt/mobile/2014-07-07/news/no-comment-on-police-commissioners-italy-visit-by-private-jet-5753602048/

On Monday, Dalli denied there had been anything inappropriate in his contact with lobbyists, saying he had met one in a hotel for 20 minutes in his swimming trunks, without knowing who he was.

  11. canon says:

And Joseph Muscat used his special consultant to humiliate one of his loyal cabinet ministers.

  12. Joe Fenech says:

Corruption involving politicians and corporations is not confined to Malta. What is shocking in this case is that, despite being fully aware of Dalli’s moves, a shameless Muscat appointed him as a consultant to the government.

  13. Gahan says:

    http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/dalligate/40783/barroso_faces_dalli_in_court_today#.U7rZFSiXK3V

“Barroso faces Dalli in court”. should have read “Dalli faces Barroso in court”.

  14. The Three Monkeys says:

I’m sure that Barroso knew what was brewing when he said that if Mr Dalli hadn’t resigned, he would have sacked him. One doesn’t pass comments like these for the fun of it or just out of spite.

  15. ciccio says:

And Joseph Muscat put him on a par with corrupt Shiv Nair – who is permanently debarred by the World Bank for corruption – and made him his Special Advisor.

Who said that Joseph Muscat does not know what he is doing?

  16. Salvu says:

    According to Maltatoday, http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/dalligate/40895/by_not_forcing_me_to_sack_him_dalli_accepted_his_voluntary_resignation__barroso#.U7t6ZNkazCQ ,
yesterday’s hearing at the European Court of Justice is just a media battle , and that it turned out to be a small victory for Barroso.
