The 40-member PBS Orchestra doesn’t yet exist. But cyber-prowler Frederick Testa is already its artistic director.

Frederick Testa, the 60-year-old cyber-prowler and loser with no track record to speak of, who was put on the state payroll with a year’s contract at PBS as ‘drama consultant’, this being his reward for playing a prominent part in the Labour Party’s campaign, is being kept on there now that his contract has elapsed.

His new job description is ‘artistic director’ of the PBS Orchestra – except that the PBS Orchestra doesn’t exist and they’re rushing the auditions through to pick the 40 musicians required. See previous post.

There’s no orchestra yet, but the orchestra that doesn’t exist has an artistic director and what do you know, it even has a debut programme already, which is exactly what you would expect of Testa and his hackneyed outlook: A Night at the Theatre scheduled for November at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and then a Christmas special and a tribute to Cole Porter and Noel Coward.

So what does that look like to you, dear readers? Frederick ‘I Got My Kartanzjan But I Still Casual Sex’ Testa and the two musical directors, Paul Abela and Joe Brown, are already on board with their musical programme ready to go for November and the orchestra doesn’t exist yet.

Meanwhile, our local council elections are going to be cancelled so that the money can be used to put 40 musicians on the state payroll so that Testa has something to do in between trawling for sex with random men on the internet.

Joe Brown has been conspicuous by his absence these last ten years. Now we know.

Vella knew and until yesterday was saying otherwise.

If this doesn’t deserve a call for resignation. Even more so if he didn’t.

PBS Orchestra. What a joke !

In Malta, there aren’t enough professional musicians to form one semi-decent orchestra let alone a second one.

    Will they play requests?

    How about ‘Any Old Iron’?

Shades of Julia Farrugia and Project Malta. It has become customary for this government to put the cart before the horse.

Look at the last picture. How did they ever manage to pass off this lot of nerds as cool?

A television station that shows artistic and musical programmes isn’t a bad idea. However PBS already has a second television station: TVM2 which is supposed to air cultural programmes and documentaries.

Besides there’s no need to air concerts played by Maltese musicians, they could easily buy/ hire rights (I’m not sure how this usually works) for films showing concerts and ballets etc. I’m sure it will turn out to be cheaper than paying for a second national orchestra.

I’m also wondering how a second nationally financed orchestra will work out. Some professional instrument players are in really short supply in Malta; there are only about five harp players in Malta, and not much more flute and bass players. If the same players are chosen, will they have enough time for both orchestras? (Usually there isn’t.) And if they will have time for both, why do we need two orchestras?

Yet nobody was able to tell me how big size M is. Again, I am not interested in Mr. Testa’s treasures. I’m just curious.
