The prime minister refers to John Dalli this morning as “the Commissioner”

Published: July 3, 2014 at 2:08pm

The Malta Independent reports:

“The Commissioner,” Dr Muscat said, in reference to John Dalli, “has given an altogether different version. I await more details from OLAF.”

This pandering to John Dalli at the expense of Malta’s reputation and respect for the rule of law can indicate one thing only: not personal friendship but that it’s a matter of following the money and the deals.

I get the feeling that Muscat is not protecting Dalli so much as protecting himself from Dalli. My interpretation of the situation is that Muscat and his government/party will suffer more damage by cutting Dalli loose than they are suffering by protecting him and pleasing him to the absurd point of calling him “Commissioner”.

Muscat, Dr. Joseph is afraid of what is in the metaphorical ‘brown envelope’ which is in the possession of Dalli BA, John.

One simple comment. I get your drift as I see it that way myself.

  4. Persil says:

Legally John Dalli is still Commissioner as his resignation was forced .I am sure he is not a Commissioner for the Labour Government.

[Daphne – No, Persil. Legally he is NOT an EU Commissioner. He was sacked. And somebody else is there in his stead. Let’s say you are managing a factory. Your boss sacks you or forces you to resign. Regardless of the validity of his reasons, you have still lost your job/position. You are no longer the factory manager. The most you can hope for is compensation for unfair dismissal. But you do not get your job back as factory manager, let alone are you considered to have held it all along despite being sacked.]

Persil, how could you make such an idiotic argument?

Daphne’s explanation states the obvious; it is the conclusion that you and everyone else should arrive at if you spend some time to think it through.

Claiming that Dalli is still EU Commissioner is ridiculous.

I’m not sure if the Malta Independent got it right. It’s possible that Muscat was referring to the police commissioner, not Dalli.

  6. bob-a-job says:

Perhaps Muscat Joe was joking again and playing on the word ‘Commissions’ not necessarily as in ‘European Commission’.

You can never tell with that guy, he’s a natural performer.

  7. Joseph Ellul-Grech says:

John Dalli was a CORRUPT commissioner, now he is a CORRUPT and disgraced ex commissioner. Dalli is a protected sub species and a disgrace to Malta. He continues to bring Malta into disrepute. It is about time he shut up.

  8. Joseph Ellul-Grech says:

The PM referred to J. Dalli Ba as commissioner. On the 11 June 2013 The Wall Street Journal referred to John Dalli as a “Pariah”. I can only refer to him as THE SEWER OF EUROPEAN AND MALTESE POLITICS.

Is it possible this man continues to drag Malta’s name through the mud for his own selfish gain? Dalli should just disappear into oblivion and spare us his crap.

He is completely shameless, but worst of all he is a two-penny crook.

John, a piece of advice: just get on with your sad life. Who wants to be saving his sorry ass at 65 when he might just kick the bucket at any time?

When are you planning on enjoying some of your ill-gotten millions, or do you just enjoy counting them?
