I’m beginning to get a glimmering of insight into why Mrs Konrad Mizzi bothered off to China after using her political contacts and abusive cronyism to negotiate her financial independence from her husband.
No woman can live with a man who thinks 25 euros are enough to buy a week’s supply of groceries.
I quote from a report in The Malta Independent:
Residential homes that spent more than 12 hours without electricity during last week’s nationwide blackout will receive a €25 payment as compensation, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi announced this evening. The decision was taken by cabinet this morning and will affect some 8,000 households.
Businesses will also get compensation but the government still has to decide on the amount. The €25 payment for households, he said, would make a lot of difference because it was a week’s supply of groceries.

The Minister should pay a compensation at the hourly rate which his wife makes as an Envoy to China.
Using simple maths, with 31 days of work per month and 8 hours of daily work, she earns just over Eur 50 per hour to make Eur 13,000 per month.
12 hours of blackout x Eur 50 per hour = Eur 600.
That’s what the compensation should amount to.
There are approximately 20 working days in a month or approximately 173.33 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks ÷ 12). Her hourly rate is €75.
If Konrad Mizzi told the Chinese that € 25 is a week’s supply of groceries, no wonder they are saying that the wages and salaries of Enemalta personnel are too high.
When has Minister Mizzi been shopping for groceries last? 30 years ago?
[Daphne – Thirty years ago, 25 euros (which would have been just over a tenner in old money) wouldn’t have bought you a week’s worth of groceries. It might have bought enough very basic food for two people for three days.]
Euro 25 is more like a day’s worth of groceries not a week’s. Who are we kidding here?

€25 wouldn’t even cover our fruit juices and wine for a week.
I was under the impression that the 25 euro bounty was a gesture meant to cover food for a day or two, not a week.
If people genuinely lost a week’s worth of frozen/refrigerated stuff and were not financially able to recuperate this loss, it’s likely they receive other forms of assistance as well, and are in the minority.

How does one manage to replace a damaged kitchen appliance with 25 euros , Mr Minister?
If you suspect that a kitchen appliance was damaged as a result of abnormalities in Enemalta’s energy supply to your home, there are alternative processes for filing a claim of that nature.
I suffered a 5 hour blackout. Besides this I shall be suffering an additional tax to fund those thousands who suffered a 12 hour blackout.

Everyone seems to be missing the point.
The issue is not whether €25 are sufficient or not. We should be asking why all tax payers have been forced to fund Nuxellina’s latest gimmick.

It’s so funny, They lavish so much money on their cronies and spend like there’s no tomorrow, then the population gets the crumbs after the disaster.
Just look at the new council elections. By extending the election dates, you save money at the tax payers’ expense!
It’s not about the people, it’s all about PL.
Confirms Konrad Mizzi’s capability to deal with numbers.
And when he couldn’t, this guy expected an LNG tanker to empty half its tanks and carry on elsewhere.
