Maltese donations to the European Foundation for Freedom investigated by French journalists last May

The reason for their investigation is that they suspected – accurately – that the donations listed as coming from different sources were in fact coming from the same people, and that they were broken up to circumvent the regulations on maximum donations by a single individual/entity.
Imagine if they had known what we know now: that the donations come from “criminal” money.
The link to the video is below, and I have fast-forwarded it to the relevant bit.

The accounts of the foundation were audited. Shouldn’t this problem have been pointed out?
So Kev, is this ‘Foundation for Freedom’ a revisited ‘Alliance for Freedom’, the moment the EP saw behind Sharon’s creativity with political parties and stopped funding?
Ahjar nrodd s-slaleb. Basta jigi bil-paranoia u kemm ahna lura. Ejja pupu, ghax issa Frontex Plus, tara kemm se nsewwu helicopters.
No, auditors have no duty to find money-laundering issues. They only have a duty to report any issues but since an audit is made on a sample of transactions it is very hard to find instances of money-laundering.
Auditors have no duty to “find” anything. Their duty is to practise their profession in accordance with the relevant regulations/laws and standards.
And if they come across suspicious financial activity it is indeed their duty in this country to report.
Banks should have sussed this out though.
They should have realised that supermarket profits don’t operate that way.
Daphne x’inhu ezattament il funzjoni tal-EFF ghax ma tantx nista nifhem ezatt jew dan jaghmel xi parti min xi partit ewropej.
L-EFF hija semplici skuza biex dawk li jridu johorgu mill-Unjoni japplikaw ghal-fondi tal-istess Unjoni sabiex jkunu jistghu jhambqu kontra l-Unjoni.
Ara x’gharukaza u kif tahli flusna l-Unjoni Ewropea.
Were these cash donations or were they wire-transferred?
Note that we are speaking about two entities here
1. the European Foundation for Freedom (an NGO) and
2. the European Alliance for Freedom (a political party with its registered office in Birkirkara)
