  1. Rumplestiltskin says:

If this happened in the States where many carry firearms for personal protection there probably would have been a very dead, pepper-spraying, masked, white-clothed, police recruit trainer.

  2. TROY says:

Malta Police are now doing taxi services to and from church schools. Phone 21224001.

  3. Redneck says:

I followed the original thread on Facebook. What I found interesting is that upon realising his error, the perpetrator never stopped to check that his victims were OK. He just ran off.

Given that this was a policeman training police trainees, it seems like message being given is that one’s mistakes should be hidden.

  4. Lomax says:

I’m howling with laughter – though it is rather tragic. I mean, if the man dispatched to act as an aggressor is a police officer, the state of our police force is sorry indeed if he is not capable of distinguishing police trainees from ordinary citizens.

  5. Annette Rodo says:

My update as posted on The Salott:

UPDATE – We have been contacted by the Police Academy who went out of their way to express their sincerest apologies for the situation. We were really surprised by the amount of concern they showed for what happened and appreciate their effort in assuring us that never had it crossed their mind that there could have been any hikers in the area at that time of night. All’s well that ends well – Case Closed :)

  6. Carlsten Xuereb says:

To add more to Mrs. Rodo’s comment above (I was one of the hikers):

The Police Academy addressed our concerns with utmost professionalism. This was quite an unfortunate event and I’m quite sure that extra care would be given in the future to avoid such incidents.

From our end this is a ‘closed case’ and we’re happy with the final outcome.
