More scandalous abuse: Emmanuel Mallia & Associates trying to persecute Birdlife through the Data Protection Office
What follows is an excerpt from a press statement released by Birdlife last spring. Incidentally, somebody should tell them that Moira Delia is a lifelong tribal Labour voter who helped put Manuel Mallia into power and who is hardly in a position to object. The essential point re her show being forced to air hunter propaganda, however, is that Emmanuel Mallia is the government minister responsible for TVM (something Birdlife doesn’t seem to know either) while Emmanuel Mallia & Associates are the lawyers for the hunters.

The Data Protection Commission have sought to fine us for showing footage of FKNK council member David Briffa after he was convicted of attempted assault in a public hearing; while Moira Delia, the presenter of animal welfare discussion programme Animal Diaries, has had her programme shortened in order to air an FKNK documentary promoting ‘the tradition of spring hunting’.
And finally, BirdLife Malta received a letter from the Data Protection Commission dated 23rd April, which seeks to hold the conservation organisation jointly responsible for any breaches of data protection made by Chris Packham, an independent journalist, in the course of his reporting on spring hunting in Malta.
“This would be remarkable in its own right, but more remarkable is the name of the lawyer acting on behalf of the FKNK to whom the letter was copied,” said Mr Micklewright.
“Doctor Kathleen Grima works for Emmanuel Mallia & Associates Advocates. Emmanuel Mallia is of course the Minister for Home Affairs and National Security and his portfolio includes the police and the public broadcasting service. The headed paper of Emmanuel Mallia & Associates Advocates is emblazoned with the Minister’s name.”

The general principle, in order to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest, is that when a person is appointed to public office he is expected to sever all links with any professional firm in which he worked.
For example, judges and magistrates in Malta are expected to terminate all links with their former law firm. Below is what the Chief Justice’s Guidelines – part of the Code of Ethics for Members of the Judiciary – provide in this respect:
“A Judge is expected to terminate all professional and business contacts with his former partners and clients and to sever professional connections with his former office or chambers on taking up judicial office, save to the extent that such contact may be necessary for practical purposes, such as the receipt of outstanding fees. A Judge should not maintain an office or make use of office facilities in the premises of the partnership, firm or chambers with which he was formerly connected, and he should also bear in mind the need for discretion in the number and frequency of visits he makes there even when these are of a social or personal nature. He is also to ensure that his name is removed from the headed papers and other stationery of the partnership, firm or chambers.”
Are there any similar guidelines applicable to Ministers of State in Malta?

The Communications Office for Government is rigged.
It’s the whole of this Government that needs to go NOW.

And how.
It is about time that lawyers who have made a career out of defending clients, as well as their legal firm, as long as it still bears the lawyer’s name, should never be appointed ministers responsible, in one way or another, for the administration of law and justice.
This applies to all, irrespective of the political party in government.
Nor should anyone connected to professional football.
There is no other sport that is that corrupt.
The hunters know that attack is the best form of defence.
Minister Mallia’s resources as regards information and access to persons of interest cannot be compared to those of Tom, Dick or Harry, but then no one would think that Mallia’s firm would take unfair advantage of this fact would they?

Anton Attard is truly disgraceful and unprincipled. He had become so accustomed to sucking at the teat that he couldn’t let it go even in March 2013 and struck a deal with Labour for his survival. And this when his sister is married to Beppe Fenech Adami. Beppe had better watch what he says around the family lunch-table because it will all go straight back to Silvio Scerri and the Police Ministry.
Another one who said he would resign if the passport buyers had to spend even one day of residence.
What is it with these people who keep saying they will resign and then not resigning?
