Prime Minister under pressure: to lie or not to lie, to tell the truth or not to tell the truth?

Published: November 25, 2014 at 3:36pm

Compare and contrast with the way Muscat, then leader of the Opposition, answered a press question about how he got to know that John Dalli had been kicked out of office as European Commissioner. He not only said that Dalli had rung him. He also volunteered the precise time and day.

Can these people honestly come close to comparing themselves to how Gonzi conducted himself?

  2. Mike says:

Who is the woman in the video at 2.21 having an agitated argument with the police and the guy in a striped polo shirt?

  3. Gahan says:

I have never seen Muscat cornered in a situation like in this press conference.

He was not his usual self.

The journalists are really becoming ruthless.

Hin minnhom kien jidher car li kellu bzonn jivventila. L-imgiba tieghu ai termini tal-verita hija dizgustanti.

Jiena ddecidejt li ma nemmnux izjed.

Bir-rispett kollu ciccio, issa ddeċidejt li ma temmnux iżjed? Jien m’emmintu qatt. U tgħidlix li forsi kont biased kif jgħidu l-Ingliżi. Lanqas xejn, għaraftu mal-ewwel kliem li beda mingħalih ibellgħalna. GIDDIEB tal-iprem kwalità u dawk li għandu miegħu ħadu l-eżempju u għamlu bħalu jew agħar. . Mill-ewwel bsart li kien qed jgħaddina biż-żmien biex jaħtaf il-poter f’idejh u xejn aktar.Iż-żmien tani raġun.

They should be ruthless with a bad liar like the prime minister.

The man is too arrogant and stupid to be ashamed of himself.

    Note to journalists:

When Muscat replies back with “Skuzi?” that is a sign that he has no answer for the question asked and it is the right time to nail him by insisting with the argument.

In the clip above, it is very clear that he lost his cool with the journalist.

This is the Joseph Muscat I like, not the fake one full of smiles. I prefer him nasty, arrogant, unbearable, confused, without answers. It is in moments like these that one can see the real him.

[Daphne – It is in moments like those that we have true insight into what a hard time his wife must really have behind the facade and the showing off. Any man who speaks like that to others definitely speaks like that to his wife as well – probably more often because with her he doesn’t need to pretend.]

Here is another “Skuzi” moment – watch from 1.20 onwards.

  6. La Redoute says:

Presumably, the call reached Muscat on his mobile phone. He could check his phone log.

      What for?

Is it simply to give a truthful answer the question of a serious journalist acting in the public’s interest?

What the heck does that mean – or has ever meant – to little joey?

  7. Neil says:

WOW! Never seen the sneaky toe-rag looking so uncomfortable as he was there. The man is seriously worried.

  8. David J Camilleri says:

How do you mean that a prime minister of Malta has to look at his watch or mobile log? “Ma tarax jew”, that is a waste of time and besides “Mhux fl-interess tal-poplu din l-informazzjoni!”

  9. Cikku says:

Kemm kien preċiż meta ta l-ħin li ċempillu Dalli. Ma qgħadtx ilaqlaq. Dak inhar inzerta kellu u ħares lejn l-arloġġ. forsi għax ma kellux x’jagħmel.

  10. Spock says:

I ‘d like to congratulate the journalist who had the balls to corner Muscat so bravely . Who was he ?

  11. Aston says:

    Porky telling porkies, who knew?

  12. High Tea says:

That fudging about the time and saying he didn’t look at his watch was all really pointless. All mobile phones atuomatically log the times of each call – even my karakka phone does that automatically.

Unless he’d received a zillion calls per hour from the same number – say, if Franco Debono needs attention – he could easily find out when that particular call came in.

Another lying arsehole, in other words.

It isn’t just Manuel Mallia who should resign. Muscat should too and take his whole cabinet of horrors with him. That ghoxx of Michelle can then hold her bloody high teas at their hamallata of a house in Burmarrad and then let’s see how many chavs and switchers will flock there to be in her presence.

Qabda hamalli u criecer. I hope they gag on their naqa soop u selit.

  13. Newman says:

The second question should have been: ‘Sirt taf qabel jew wara l-press release tad-DOI?’
