Shame Chris Cardona didn’t go to watch a football match with anybody in this story
Because then the press and the Opposition might have paid more attention to what seems to be going on. The Minister interferes directly with the evaluation of a casino tender by personally ordering the disbandment of the Privatisation Unit’s technical committee.
He cites conflicts of interest, but all members – led by a judge – have formally declared there are none.
There is another minister involved in this, too: the try-hard-to-seem-innocuous Edward Zammit Lewis, the prime minister’s best friend, who called Manuel Camilleri, head of the Privatisation Unit, BEFORE Chris Cardona ordered that the technical committee be disbanded.
Zammit Lewis, who has no business ringing the Privatisation Unit and interfering in its operations because it is not in his portfolio, did so to say to Camilleri that there were issues of conflicts of interest in the technical committee appraising the casino tender bid.
How did he get involved – because casinos are ‘tourism’? Because one of the two bidders is a hotel operator?
What a stinking mess.

U kollox jibqa’ ghaddej. What a country of opportunists.
Yesterday, I could not stomach some of the ‘know-it-all’ speakers who commented on the budget. They tripped over themselves not to ‘harm’ Joseph’s government.
