They have no sense of the scale and impact of what they are doing

Published: November 20, 2014 at 2:08pm

This morning the British High Commissioner’s official car was seen parked outside the Office of the Prime Minister.

In essence, what we have here is a situation in which a British citizen has been shot at, chased and shot at again by the protection officer-cum-chauffeur of a minister of the Maltese government, following which he, and not his assailant, was arrested by the Maltese police.

    Just wait for the tabloids.

It won’t be long before it’s all over the British press.

    Great advert for Malta.

    • Tabatha White says:

      And so it should be.

It’s them Maltese that keep things wrapped up, supposedly. Not all Maltese.

Every action has a reaction and the consequences are what happens when there is an Accountability Gap.

And right after Junior Bloody Eurovision, what a shame.

    • Salvu says:

All over the British press with the real sequence of events.

    • Pippa says:

Looking forward to that. I hope the British press really makes a big story out of it. I don’t expect much out of our “free press”.

Perhaps the P.M. might -just might- start to realise the enormity of what Malta has been reduced to – quickly following in the footsteps of China, North Korea, Russia et al.

Can you just picture the shoot-outs during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting? All those ‘security drivers’ and all that tension…

  4. curious says:

That must be why Sheehan was suspended. The British High Commissioner surely did not leave Castille without proper assurances that normal, legal procedure is to be followed.

And this time, doublespeak, sarcasm and British humour won’t work.

And please note the ill-advised rush by the Toad to repeat lies which barely survived an hour in the morning light.

When will these clowns learn how to govern?

Employing persons with anger problems or a straight out criminal history is like getting your local sex offender to babysit your daughters.

    • Don’t blame him entirely. The Prime Minister employed, gave a good post, arranged for his homosexual partner to be posted with him, called him a man of steel, and presented him to Prince William as one of the limited selected guests worthy of such an honour.

These are the values of our New Labour, really the resurrected corpse of the Malta Labour Party of the Mintoff-KMB days.

  6. tinnat says:

Thank you, Britain, for doing to the Prime Minister what none of us Maltese managed to do.

  7. freedom5 says:

Finally this is what The Times and Malta Today should be reporting rather than repeating government press releases:

“British citizen has been shot at, chased and shot at AGAIN by the protection officer-cum-chauffeur of a minister of the Maltese government, following which he, and not his assailant, was arrested by the Maltese police”

  8. Antoine Vella says:

First they embarrass and insult Prince William who was here representing the head of the United Kingdom. Then they shoot at a UK citizen.

Seems that things are not going all that well between Cameron and Muscat.

  9. Niki says:

“They have no sense of the scale and impact of what they are doing”

    Who said they ever did?

Back to the old colonial mentality.

Because this Mr. Nobody happens to be British, he is sure to be the goodie, and the Maltese policeman the baddy.

This morning hardly anyone knew who this British was, but we were already asking for minister Mallia’s resignation.

In my opinion the policeman acted correctly, in his place the rule is shoot first ask questions later.

[Daphne – You would say that, Mr Loporto, given that you voted for Manuel Mallia. Well done. Il-vera haqqek prosit. Shoot first and ask questions later, indeed: that could have been your son.]

    • Ares says:

Bravu ta’. Just tell us your whereabouts so that we can keep as far away as possible. Shoot first, ask questions later (sic) – Far West or mafia gang war. Dear Silvio, take a rest, you need it.

    • just me says:

Exactly like the Wild West – shoot first and ask questions later. There could have been children in the car. They could have been killed. What type of questions would have been asked then?

      • silvio Loporto says:

Of course “There could have been children in the car””

        Which car?

He could have had a bomb in his hand, not the reported broken glass bottle.

The minister and his family could have been in the car.

In my book, crashing into a parked car can either be too much booze lack of skill, etc etc, the inquest will hopefully give us some answers.

So in these unsafe times, all around us, we should play safe and “Shoot First” after all I don’t think there are many of us who doubt the integrity of our Police force.

    • Maltri says:

This comment is shocking, to say the least. If I had not known your pseudo I would have dismissed this as a joke.

[Daphne – It’s actually his real name.]

Modern day, westernised, educated, humanitarian, European citizens do not judge by nationality, class or job, but we judge according to the actions of the individual.

Do not pull out the colonialism card on us, because it shows in which times your process of though stopped evolving. My peers and I were born years after the last navy ship left the island and for sure we do not have any colonial experience. Still we are all shocked with the story.

Tell me why should an off-duty policeman shoot on a minor traffic offence in a residential area where no one is armed or even acting violently?

This accident is so trivial that such matters are resolved by insurances. The drivers and the court are left out in such matters. My car suffered great damage from at least three separate accidents, were I had no fault. All I did is to make sure that I have a replacement car until my car is back on the road.

Silvio Loporto, your comment reveals your egoistic small mindedness. The victim is not important because he is not you, he is not part of your family, he is not in your circles, and he is not even Maltese, he is not even a cat or dog that you love, so who cares, he is a Mr Nobody who is trespassing in Malta. So f*ck him.

After this your opinion does not matter, but unfortunately for us your vote does. You are dangerous.

Dr Gonzi, you were spot on ‘with a PN Govt proud to be Maltese but under an LP govt ashamed to be Maltese’

    Now where’s Eddy Privitera?

    This is free publicity!
