Fascinating fact: Toni Abela has a seat in the cabinet and is a member of the government.

Fascinating fact: Toni Abela has a seat in the cabinet and is a member of the government.

I quote from The Malta Independent:

Opposition MP Antoine Borg asked Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech about a Labour Party delegation meeting to China and whether any deals were signed in the context of Malta’s Presidency of the European Union in 2017.

Mr Grech said that he was sure that the MP on the other side of the house could distinguish between government work and the work of a political party. “As a result, I will not be answering this question.”

How insufferable Louis Grech is in the role of deputy prime minister. When he is not invisible, he is barely visible being supercilious and high-handed. The sooner he clears a space for somebody with more drive and energy and better manners, the better. As it is, he is completely useless.

It is the Labour Party itself which can’t distinguish between party and government, which is why his great leader (I wonder how that feels, being led by somebody his son’s age – ridiculous) visited China in 2010 as leader of a Labour Party delegation and signed deals with the Chinese Communist GOVERNMENT not party which have clearly committed Malta in the present.

And aside from that, last month’s Labour PARTY delegation to China was led by Toni Abela, who sits in cabinet as a member of the GOVERNMENT.

If this was a party-to-party visit – which is probably what Louis Grech means here – then why did Xinhua report that the Maltese delegation led by Labour deputy leader Toni Abela was to have meetings with officials from the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic?

    Xinhua also reported that:

“The themes discussed will include the political and economic situation of the two countries, Malta’s 2017 European Presidency and the possibility of cultural activities between the two countries. “

Notice the use of countries as opposed to parties.

Louis Grech’s reply is not a witty reply. It is yet another example of political arrogance of the Minister and the government of which he is part.

These are the same people who used to accuse the PN of being arrogant. What a laugh! They are now masters of arrogance, have mastered the art of lying, have made greed their master and secretaries their mistresses.

Daphne, your argument is logical and your line of thought is clear.

Pity that the Opposition does not hit back in the same way.

  4. It is the Hon. Louis Grech who does not seem to be able to distinguish between government and party, and that explains his refusal to answer the question.

  5. Shame on you says:

Toni Abela was on the Gozo ferry the day before yesterday at noon, going round in circles looking for his car.

He just couldn’t find it and he must have forgotten where he had parked it. And I said to myself “Well if this idiot cannot find his way to his own car how in heaven’s name is he going to be helping Joseph find his way along the road map?
