Just a simple thought, if an innocent passer by was hit, then what?

[Daphne – An innocent man WAS hit: Stephen Smith. Or at least, his car was, twice. Besides which, innocence or otherwise has nothing to do with it. You don’t shoot at people unless they are already shooting at you.]

  2. R Camilleri says:

This is just after 18 months in government. The lat time we heard about Minister’s driver shooting around was 30 years ago.

L-arlogg tal-Lira seems pales in comparison to this.

    • WhoamI? says:

Give Tonio Fenech another one of those clocks and let him go on a private jet as well. That was insignificant compared to what we have now.

    • pablo says:

Ironikament kien dak l-arlogg tal-lira u l-propoganda dwaru li regghet kollox lura ghaz-zminijiet tal-isparar u l-vjolenza pulizjeska. Dehlin mill-gdid. Parti mill-pjan ta’ intimidazzjoni ta’ poplu.

Where is Stephen Smith now? Can a journalist go and look for him, and if they cannot find him ask the police?

    • Jozef says:

      Jason Azzopardi please note.

    • ciccio says:

They are probably keeping him as far as they can from the free media.

    • Angus Black says:

My understanding is that the British High Commissioner is now involved in Smith’s case and I don’t think Mallia or his cowboys will cause him any harm.

More likely he was ‘interviewed’, charged with whatever applies and released.

But yes, journalists should investigate and verify that Mr Smith is now safe.

  4. M says:

A perfect example of why Joseph Muscat CANNOT possibly do anything in the Big Bang method.

He and his government are not capable of anything other than the tweak as you go way. Just look at the number of times the ministerial statement had to be tweaked and updated.

They have even finally said that the minister’s driver has been suspended from all duties. Now was it rocket science to know that that was what was called for in the first instance.

Le ma tarax, first they had to see what they could get away with, when questions became too loud and uncomfortable another pawn had to fall.

”Update 8: Shooting incident – Ministerial driver suspended from all duties”

While we read the previous version still visible in update 8:

”The minister refused to specify when asked, whether the constable had been actually suspended from his job as a policeman or just from escort duties.”

  5. Jozef says:

The car was hit three times, one bullet lodged just above the rear window, one the left light cluster and another the bumper on the right, that’s driver’s side.

    That’s no warning.

    http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/court_and_police/46375/ministers_driver_involved_in_argument_shots_fired#.VG4DPjTF9mM

And isn’t that the driver himself in the white shirt on his mobile?

And why is the ministerial car’s boot open?

  6. Joe Fenech says:

Is a psychological assessment required for these kinds of high-profile jobs involving the potential use of weapons?

  7. Manhattan says:

Meanwhile this pathetic report by this sorry excuse for a journalist remains posted with prominence on the Illum portal:

  8. Mila says:

”He (minister Mallia) said it was an unfortunate incident and it is a pity that some people are trying to distort what happened.”

WHO exactly has been distorting what happened minister Mallia? I have not heard a peep from Mr. Smith yet and apparently he has been under arrest for the whole time so I would not think that HE spoke to the press.

Could we perhaps start a collection to organize a ‘most vile’ award?

  9. P Zammit says:

But where is Stephen Smith now? Still under arrest?

I hope we do not end up with an ISIL / North Korean style statement by Mr Smith issued via the Police apologizing to the Minister’s driver and to the Minister himself for terrorizing them both and accepting blame for having been shot at three times.

You can’t tell what surprises the Government may be hatching for us all during Mr Smith’s arrest.

  10. ron says:

Issa tara kif jehel l-iSkocciz li spara dawk it-tiri u x-xufier tal-ministru jigi vittma kif kienu jaghmlu fit-tmeninijiet.

  11. Typically Labour says:

Could it be that the rules of engagement for the use of firearms by the police force have been updated of late?
