What happened to Joe Galea L-Olandiz?
Up to three or four weeks ago, one of Manuel Mallia’s drivers was a man called Joe Galea, aka L-Olandiz, an ex footballer with a colourful past and present.
For some reason, the two fell out and L-Olandiz is no longer on the scene.
L-Olandiz played Premier Division football for Rabat Ajax, Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers. He also played 61 times for the national team. But that was a long time ago. Since then his career has been different.
He has the sort of shady reputation which means it is likely he was one of Manuel Mallia’s clients at some point. He was certainly one of his vote-canvassers in the last general election.
Then when Manuel Mallia was made Police Minister, L-Olandiz was put on the public payroll and drove him around. He even left the car to accompany him right into public engagements and press calls.
Codruta and Manuel Mallia treated L-Olandiz, like the minister’s drivers Paul Sheehan and Paul Vella, as a sort of all-round household retainer they got free off the public purse. He not only drove them to Lidl but also pushed their trolley and picked things off the shelves as Manuel read them off the list.
In two of the photographs below, you will see him helping the Police Minister to pack the groceries at the Lidl till.

Gharukaza – no other word comes to mind.
Perhaps he was removed with ‘Oxi Action Assorted’ since according to that poster it comes seriously cheaper at only € 3.19.
I’ve heard of personal shoppers, but Mallia is really taking it to the limit.
He is still picking up the Minister’s son from St Edward’s in a small white Mercedes.
Given CodrutO Mallia and L-Olandiz have parted ways, is L-Olandiz still on the public payroll?
Most probably yes , otherwise he would be sitting near the Orpheum Theatre in front of the PL club in Gzira .
And you want Mallia sacked?
Where would we get our laughs then?
This is no laughing matter.
From Konrad Mizzi, Joe Mizzi, Leo Brincat, Luciano Bussutil, Chris Cardona, Helena Dalli, Joseph Muscat and the rest.
Lord graciously deliver us.
When L-Olandiz was asked his I.Q., his answer was ‘at Lidl and I also push the trolley sometimes’
