The Minister for Passport Sales, Manuel Mallia, made a point of being secretive about the matter. Here’s hoping Carmelo Abela won’t be the same way, thereby exposing himself to the same accusations and suspicion of corruption and backhanders.

Over 200 applications for citizenship have been received since the program’s launch in early 2014, with a number already at the Due Diligence phase. There are over 30 nationalities represented among the applicants so far. The IIP has the world’s strictest Due Diligence standards, ensuring that only highly respectable clients will be admitted. The program intake is also capped at 1,800 successful main applicants, after which the program will close, making this the most exclusive program in the world.

If the due diligence is of the same quality Mallia used to choose his babysitters and drivers, then we have crooks and machine-gunners in the approved list for citizenship.
I had already been informed that at least 30 new passports were “off the register.”
Another statement claimed that the “over 200 applications” had netted the Malta government 200 million euro.
This statement says that “a number are ALREADY at the due diligence stage”.
Does that mean that the government has to date netted next to nothing?
Unless, of course, the applicants paid in advance either the full price or at least a deposit on application.
This is very reassuring that the highest and strictest due diligence is carried out.
