There is a brief moment of mirth-inducing irony when the police telephone system’s automated music comes on and it’s the sound of…Scottish bagpipes.

The selection process for persons manning the 112 lines has long been a topic of nudge, nudge, wink.
People who had regular contact with the control room had fumed and prayed but nothing changed.
Well, it is now out in the open and the general public can enjoy the professionalism of some of the responders, nudge, nudge, wink.
I called 112 only last week, to report an emergency. When I got connected, there was an automated message telling me in English and Maltese that “this call is being recorded” followed by Christmas season music. Nobody replied after that.
And where is the telephone call with the Minister ‘who knew nothing’?
Now that we have listened to the calls that preceded the three-way staged one, I am struck by Sheehan’s continued insistence on letting anyone he spoke to know that he had shot at Smith.
That’s interesting, considering how fast such news must have travelled throughout the police depot.
Practically all the police force knew that car was riddled with bullets.
How does the Office of the Prime Minister risk a statement which required every officer involved to keep mum? Must be worth it.
Sheehan to be commended for perseverance, he must get hold of the minister.

The music is Highland Cathedral because, you know, the Police Headquarters is a cathedral of integrity and virtue.
Do the minister and Ms Cristian know what parental responsibility means? How could they have possibly left that young child in the care of such a psychopath?

If so, the minister is not only irresponsible and a confirmed liar but also a despicably bad father.

The irony of our police force and Scottish bagpipes would have been clearer if you cared to visit The Point this morning.
There was a contingent of mounted police, and at least two others dressed in Father Christmas outfits, complete with their Pulizija high visibility vests on top (to make sure visitors note they’re actually policeman in fancy dress) and playing bagpipes.
Hearing all these recorded phone calls, Sheenan mentions that he shot twice at another driver numerous times and he says it with a sense of bravado.
The thing that sticks out is that the police taking Sheenan’s calls (and there were several) did not even bother to ask about the state of health of the driver at the receiving end of these gun shots…not even once.
