You see – it doesn’t have to be religion

Published: January 10, 2015 at 1:34am

Vladimir Putin’s Russia has legislated to bar transgender and transsexual people, and those with ‘sexual fetishes’, from holding a driving licence on the grounds that they are mentally disordered.

Remind me – do they have shariah law in Russia? Does the Russian Orthodox Church have anything to say about transsexuals and driving licences? No and no.

Epic logic fail, Daphne. Pretty obvious that it does not have to be religion.

That detracts not one iota from the fact that any ideology that prohibits rational thinking or can not live with it, (all religions) are definitely Not A Good Thing.

[Daphne – That’s exactly what I said. And no, it isn’t ‘pretty obvious’ that it does not have to be religion. It is obvious only to people with a sense of perspective and context. You only have to read what’s being written on comments boards and Facebook to see how people think religion is the problem.]

Nothing to do with religion at all.

    Dear Daphne

With all my respect to your publications, why do you think that the BBC article above is a truth? According to the Times of Malta who published the whole article, the new law in Russia which came into force on 29 of December 2014, any person who have a mental disorders which is listed as such by World Health Association, cannot be a holder of driving license. So the Putin himself is not a person who includes transgenders and other to the above mentioned classification. For your info, this rule exists in Russia for century but now it is linked to World classification.

[Daphne – You’re a little confused. There’s no such thing as the World Health Association, and if you mean the World Health Organisation, then it doesn’t give recommendations on the matter of who gets to drive and who does not. Nor does it classify transgender people as mentally disordered. Are you suggesting that somebody with a phobia or depression shouldn’t be allowed to drive?]

The Russian Orthodox church blesses the guns used by Russian soldiers – specifically the weapons, not say, the soldiers. It was all the hype when Russian troops were preparing to intervene in Crimea.

There was a comment in another blog regarding insulting the prime minister in Malta which prompted me to look up the incident he mentioned and find that insulting the prime minister, and showing disrespect towards the government are actual charges brought against people in Malta.

I wonder what the parameters for these charges are?

[Daphne – The president, as far as I know, and not the prime minister. The prime minister is equal to the rest of us before the law; the head of state has special status.]

It doesn’t have to be religion. It does not exclude religion either.
