To think that we pissed it all away on a whim.
It was all pissed away in 1956, when the integration referendum took place. It pains me to think what Malta could have been.
Integration was nonsense, and everyone knew it, including Mintoff. The referendum should have been about Dependency status.
Mintoff would have never accepted a situation where he wasn’t top dog.
He replaced the monarchy with a presidency that was subordinate to him, a state of affairs that has been retained.
They surely didn’t work together to keep Malta a lovely and happy place.
Is it just my impression that the population had more class back then?
Not really.
It’s just that the rabble kept their distance, acknowledged their inferiority and did not hog the internet with reams of illiteracy, vacant looks and horrid outfits.
No. But the people in power did.
M’hawx stoffa. They all issue from the spring – Tal-Qroqq. Same as hamburger vs hotdogs. Very different shapes but much the same contents: 99% lard.
Why did I think that you had posted the trailer of 40 shades of grey when I read the title?
@CM No it is not an impression. Mintoffianism was not yet wreaked on the island.
You can see the fruit of Mintoff in our prime minister and, poor soul (couldn’t find a better word) he is even proud of it. His consort is even prouder. So no it is not an impression at all.
Men wore a suit and women a hat to go to Valletta. No wife beater vests in Kingsway then.
“The Maltese government would do anything it could to cushion the impact of the withdrawal of British forces in Malta” at 1:18 (or something like that anyway).
This recording was made just 3 years after Independence, and I thought Mintoff was the sole architect of our Helsien mill-Inglizi.
If ever there was proof Mintoff tried to pass off the events of 1979 as something else, then here it is.
CM, most definitely more class. It’s a fact that in any organisation the leadership qualities disseminate down.
Most unfortunately the hamallagni, corruption, second-hand, amateur mentality which Mintoff/KMB institutionalised in 16 years of Goebbels-style propaganda through Xandir Malta has clearly affected a generation or two. We still suffer from this today.
