It is absolutely shocking that neither Falzon nor Zammit has apologised to the nation

It says everything you need to know about the attitude of Michael Falzon and Ninu Zammit that in their statements last Saturday and yesterday, they failed to understand that the first thing they should have done was apologise to the nation for cheating so massively on their own taxes while collecting taxes from everyone else.

They should have apologised for lying and for breaching the electorate’s trust in such a big way, for letting down their party leaders, for concealing from their prime minister information on their wrong-doing so that he would allow them to carry on sitting in cabinet (and appoint them in the first place), for knowing all along that their secrets could, if exposed, have brought down the government.

They should have apologised for being so disgustingly greedy.

And instead, all we got was self-justification and the utterly crazy and off-the-wall reasoning that their “affairs are now in order”.

That’s not the point. The point is that since 1987 they have been breaking the law in a big way, breaking the laws they themselves made as legislators, breaking the law on a grand scale while Falzon was a cabinet minister for a decade and chairman of a state corporation for many years after that, and Zammit was in cabinet for two whole decades.

No, not even an apology or the merest indication that they feel they need to make one. They think they have no reason to apologise. That’s just how badly corrupted their morality level is.
