“Then came the vote, with its surprising result, welcomed in perfect silence. After a brief moment, mobile phones of different members started to ring and people got up from their place and went outside to answer the calls.”

They decided to pull the handbrake.

Space is where human consciousness loses direction.

    National psyche required, urgent.

  2. Wilson says:

It looks like a scene from 300 not a monument.

I was under the impression that, in a civilized country, people applied for a permit to erect something and, if it is approved, they went ahead and did their thing.

Was a MEPA permit not issued before someone dumped the bronze ‘monument’ in front of the Parliament building?

  5. Maltri says:

I am sure that this tacky government will try to sick something in that corner, maybe a fine china life size collie figurine, and a fake fireplace.

Very good point by Timothy Gambin to contradict what that monument represents : i.e that the Knights defended Valletta when in actual fact, they never did. They did defend the The Three Cities but when they had to defend Valletta against Napoleon they ran away.

The Grand Harbours Regeneration Corporation has not given up as yet. They submitted a new application to place those knights in front of parliament. What’s the link between the knights and our parliament ?

  7. Paul Camilleri says:

No. Joey wants that space at the entrance to Valletta free because he had promised it to Geraldu tal-gazzetti before the last general election to put up his stall there.

It fits very nicely with that environment and he sometimes sells cultural magazines.

  8. Artemis says:

Here’s an idea: don’t put anything there, statues, stalls, nothing.

Let the architecture speak for itself. It doesn’t need any embellishment. Less is more.

    Can bronze be recycled?

  13. Freedom5 says:

Excellent suggestion by Joe Spiteri on timesofmalta.com:

“Why not hit 2 birds with one stone, put 4 monti hawkers there, dress them up as knights, and allow them to sell their wares.
Then at noon, they can just pack up and go back home.”

  14. zunzana says:

I think that one should seek the advice of Renzo Piano before any additions or alterations are made to the Valletta entrance.

  15. Watcher of lies says:

Please put your mind at rest. Civilisation will prevail over barbarism, eventually.
