More Maltese English, this time from the Department of Information

This must rank as the month’s most informative press release.
“Anglu Farrugia intervenes during debate”.
I rushed to read it, thinking a fight must have broken out and our brave Speaker of the House intervened to break it up, but found that it was nothing so exciting at all.
Anglu Farrugia SPOKE during a debate but in Maltese English you don’t speak during a debate, you INTERVENE in it. Shoot them all, kif xebbghuni.
There’s another point. So the Department of Information tells us that Anglu Farrugia spoke (sorry, INTERVENED) during a debate, but then it doesn’t tell us what about.
Sack the lot of them.

In this crazy race of stupidities and chins at the trough, an important factor is being overlooked.
It is the year of the goat.
An angel intervened as Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son.
Can we say ‘gave his opinion’ or ‘made his point?’
He spoke about the elephant in the room.
Be careful with your wording, Daphne. “Shoot them all” may be interpreted as inciting violence. Of course, anyone with an iota of intelligence and common sense knows that you don’t mean it literally, but remember who’s in power. They will do anything to shut up the opposition, China style.
The conference was about human rights.
No doubt Anglu Farrugia will have drawn upon his wealth of experience during his glory days as police inspector back in KMB government days, and will have spoken about human rights, and how to stuff them.
He spoke or delivered a speech. For him to intervene there must have been something going on, like a dispute between two parties.
Or read out a speech prepared for him.
Can we be told how thrilled he other participants were after Anglu’s bit?
Revealing what the Speaker said may not be in the public interest.
The fact that he spoke probably means that he managed to string together one or more complete sentences, which is an achievement in itself.
He managed to tell others what to do in fact ”However, he forcefully urged his parliamentarian colleagues not to rest on their laurels, but to continually bear in mind the principles of Magna Carta and the Commonwealth Charter when carrying out their work.”
Some people have become big on the ‘do as I say not as I do’ principle, haven’t they?

Intervenes – they have corrupted and used an Italian word, intervenire which means “to take part”.
There probably are goats with a better command of English.
Meanwhile TVM2 is transmitting Karnival 2016 while most of us are still living 2015.
Because not only do they have to behave like utter idiots but they have to prove their pedigree on a perpetual basis.
I think that the Department of Information is correct. Any input from Anglu surely can only be described as an intervention.
That’s what happens when the government departments employ ‘taghna lkoll’ incompetent persons.
Let them enjoy it.
As if someone would give a toss what Anglu Farrugia intervened about anyway. The DOI is there to employ yet another group of blue eyed boys and girls.
“Blue-eyed boys and girls” employed in a Malta Taghhom Biss red PL government? Doesn’t sound right at all. It is the other way round most of the time.
