I think the real problem is that MaltaToday is suffering from a massive identity crisis. Post 2004, it derived its identity and its sense of self from savaging the government and anything to do with Lawrence Gonzi.
Now Gonzi is out of politics, his party is in Opposition and Malta Today has spent the last two years in a spin, torn between tiptoeing around the prime minister and his government, avoiding all mention of the Labour Party as far as possible because Labour’s deputy leader is also Malta Today’s lawyer and one of its owner’s best friends, and being not quite sure how to handle Simon Busuttil because he didn’t trash John Dalli in the party leadership election.
