We know why Saviour Balzan is defending Michael Falzon.

But why is he (and his chief employee Matthew Vella earlier today) defending Ninu Zammit?

There’s something we are not being told.

After all, these are the Big Corruption Hunters, the ones who sniffed out a 400-euro clock and ripped to shreds the PN minister who received it.

So why are they now defending, so assiduously, two PN ex ministers who perpetrated massive tax evasion over three decades, for much of which they were either sitting in cabinet or chairing a state corporation.

Balzan has been reduced to tweeting lies to defend these two scoundrels. They both used a PN amnesty to repatriate their funds, he said.

Wrong. Ninu Zammit said quite clearly in his statement this afternoon that he used a Labour government amnesty (last year). Michael Falzon made no mention of any amnesty at all in his statement, and did not say when he brought the money to Malta.

Also, funds deposited in a Swiss bank account are not an investment. They’re bank deposits. And fascinating, isn’t it, the way he takes their word for it when they say they made that money in the 1970s.

This is the Scourge of Maltese Clocks talking, remember. Here he is faced with massive tax evasion by two men when they were cabinet ministers, and it’s fine by him. Ask yourself why.

Saviour did not notice, either, that Michael Falzon said in his statement that he was suspending himself from the Nationalist Party. In other words, he jumped before Busuttil pushed him.

Call in Franco Debono – I think I spot a real xibka tal-hazen here.
