Taghna Lkoll: a full-time salary for a lecturer (and Labour councillor) who gives just two lectures a week

In reply to a question by Opposition MP Antoine Borg, the Tourism Minister confirmed that a lecturer who is on the full-time payroll at the Institute of Tourism Studies has been redeployed to teach just seven students at the ITS branch in Gozo, giving just two lectures a week.

Is this the perfect job for a Taghna Lkoller, or what? A full-time salary with all the perks of employment, for just two hours of work a week.

And you will, of course, have guessed that the man lives in Gozo, which is why he was doubly, triply accommodated by being redeployed there.

He’s been an employee of the ITS for a few years now, but required to work at the main college in Malta, teaching every day of the week.

Given that he is a Labour councillor in Qala, he was given the Taghna Lkoll gift of teaching just two hours a week there and doing nothing the rest of the time – when common decency says that, because it is a single college with a single paymaster, he should teach those two hours in Gozo and then teach in Malta the rest of the time instead of freeloading off the taxpayer while moonlighting elsewhere.

Does he work for Gozo minister Anton Refalo, by any chance, in his copious amounts of free time?
