The government had an identical offer from a private party, but chose to use taxpayers’ money instead

The National Audit Office, in its report into the Cafe Premier scandal, says clearly that there was a bail-out offer from a third party (private) which wished to take over the premises.
But this was refused, and instead the prime minister replicated that offer using taxpayers’ money. Private investment was pushed out and state funds were used instead.
