Look at the line-up at the negotiating table in Baku.
Negotiating for Malta: Joseph Muscat, his office sidekicks Keith Schembri and Kurt Farrugia, and Konrad Mizzi, all of them looking bewildered and out of their depth. Kurt Farrugia is biting his hand, Konrad Mizzi has sunk back into his chair, the prime minister is trying to look brave and assertive, and Keith Schembri looks like a drop-jawed escapee from Planet of the Apes.
Negotiating for Azerbaijan: a small army of grizzled survivors who made it to the top in a dictatorship notorious for corruption and human rights violations. And they’re obviously wondering whether they should throw in some glass beads and feathers with that.
