Is the Labour Party serious in having Janice Bartolo cover Owen Bonnici’s events?

OWEN BONNICI 20

On the TVM news last night there was some video footage of Minister Owen Bonnici speaking to a room full of women (how backward we remain in 2015, with our rooms full of women) about how the presence of women on ‘bordijiet’ should be bigger.

The day when a (male) form-filling bank lawyer in his early 30s is made Justice Minister and then proceeds to patronise women about getting ahead through special quotas for those disabled by gender is the day you know there is no hope for Malta. Not really.

And as if that were not offensive enough, the TVM cameraman – quite deliberately, I would guess, unless he lives on another planet – zoomed in on the journalist from the Labour Party’s newsroom, in the front row. It was Janice Bartolo, the minister’s girlfriend.

One minute he is being photographed with her and the Attorney General in his official box at the Manoel Theatre, and the next minute they’re being filmed for the TVM news in the roles of Minister and journalist covering his speech.
