John Dalli’s Bahamas trip triggered a second European Commission investigation

John Dalli was not only investigated for bribery and corruption in the snus ban, but there was another investigation too, triggered when news broke of his secretive trips to the Bahamas, the court was told this afternoon.

The European Commissioner’s office was searched and two key members of his staff were interviewed by the European Commission’s anti-fraud investigators.

Investigators also searched his assistant Frank Zammit’s office. Frank Zammit is now a Labour Party candidate for the upcoming local council elections, standing in Marsa.

Dalli told the investigators that he had visited the Bahamas for “philanthropic reasons”.

The investigation into Dalli’s Bahamas trip/s continues into the present, European Commission investigators told the court.
