Since Malta Freeport was privatised, Malta Freeport Corporation (a separate entity) is not much more than the lessor.
Notionally, it is a regulator too.
CEO Aaron Farrugia is paid 50,000 euros a year, plus a 15% ‘performance bonus’ and has a car and mobile phone expenses to do very little, if anything at all.
This allows him plenty of time to canvas for votes in the first electoral district, where he will stand for election in 2018.
