Here’s the man charged with shooting that cuckoo this morning

He’s Stefan Micallef, 43, of Naxxar. Looks like they’re making a pretty big deal of this, and not before time.

I imagine Mr Micallef, from the looks of him, is one of those who hunt because it has been a tradition in his family for “generations” if not centuries. Maybe they all starved for months, more than usual that is, and roasted their dead babies and ate them, so that they could use their money for a shot-gun and ammunition and have the men shoot all day instead of working to earn a living.

And I’m being ironic there (yes, there is need to spell it out).

Meanwhile, I can report that they can’t be finding much to shoot round my particular neck of the woods. I heard no gun-shots yesterday and very few today, whereas usually I wake up before dawn to the sound of them, always assuming somebody is being murdered, and they don’t stop until the afternoon.

But there are no birds either, apart from the standard year-round ones.
