Well said, the Archbishop

At long last a Maltese churchman has said the obvious to his flock: celebrating saints’ feasts is meaningless in religious and social terms when you then post messages of hate on Facebook.

Given the ingrained hatred of those who come from a different culture and who look different and have a different religion – it’s not restricted to the lower social orders, I can assure you; some of the worst offenders I know are those who consider themselves to be at the peak of Maltese society, the very same ones who are intolerably churchy – the Archbishop’s reprimand does not come a moment too soon.

It is particularly well-timed, given that the reaction of some people, in response to the tragic, hideous drowning of hundreds of people, many of whom were locked in the hold, was to worry about eating fish.
