Police from the Economic Crimes Unit, led by their chief Jonathan Ferris – whose car is parked outside the flats right now along with another two police cars – are currently searching the flat at 58 High Street, Sliema, where John Dalli’s associate, who goes by the aliases Mary Swan and Lady Bird, operated her ‘gold pool’ Ponzi scheme.

They raided the flat early this afternoon and are still there now.

One police officer has just appeared on the balcony wearing the blue gloves used in searches.

A group of people, all of them living in South Carolina in the United States, filed reports with the Malta Police and the FBI a few weeks ago, describing how they transferred large sums of money to an account at HSBC Bank in St Julian’s, held by John Dalli’s company Corporate Group Ltd, after being told that it would be invested in a ‘gold pool’ scheme run by Tyre Ltd.

They never saw the money again, and after a few ‘interest cheques’, they have received nothing and all their demands for the return of their capital have been fobbed off with one excuse after another.
