Brussels Perm Rep office: chef de cabinet Randolph Debattista uses his security clearance card to let Cyrus Engerer in

The prime minister’s ‘sherpa’ in Brussels, Cyrus Engerer, does not have security clearance for Malta’s Permanent Representation office there because of his criminal conviction and the fact that he is currently serving a suspended prison sentence of two and a half years, confirmed by the Court of Appeal.

But his boyfriend Randolph Debattista, who equally abusively was given the position of chef de cabinet to the permanent representative after an illustrious career in the Labour Party’s communications office and television station, has solved that problem by breaking the rules and letting him in using his own security card.

Engerer then spends most of the day in the company of his boyfriend in the perm rep office for which he does not have security clearance, instead of in his own office which is in the public area of Dar Malta and for which he does not need clearance.

Who can stop this? Only the perm rep, Marlene Bonnici, who is Randolph Debattista’s boss and responsible for the good order of the office. But she won’t, and if she does, she will be undermined because those two are the prime minister’s stool pigeons and special protégés.
