Civil service chief and former union boss Mario Cutajar issues guidelines on ‘imejl’ use

See this Office of the Prime Minister circular over the signature of Taghna Lkoll appointee Mario Cutajar – it’s dated March but I have only just received it and it’s still worth reading and wondering about. Wondering that is, what would prompt the head of the civil service to issue something so utterly pointless about ‘imejls’.
Now I must ask him: why does he take an English word, transmute the spelling into Maltese phonetics to create a ‘Maltese word’, but then keep the English plural ‘s’ form? Shouldn’t that be ‘imejlijiet’ – in which case it’s better just to stick to the far simpler ’emails’?
