How typically inward-looking of Astrid Vella’s outfit
Astrid Vella’s outfit, Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar, has announced that it will be holding “a series of events” to make the 450th anniversary of “the Great Siege”.
It has also published a book about the subject.
How typically inward-looking of those narrow-minded, right-wing bigots who are forever referencing the past to frame the present (it’s typical of fascism, but if you say that, they’ll squeak in outrage).
But quite apart from this, why exactly does a (pseudo) environment outfit concern itself with marking the anniversary of an attack on the Order of St John by emissaries of the Ottoman Empire?
It’s not as though there isn’t a great deal to be getting on with, fighting against the government’s destructive development policies.
Mrs Vella and her FAA could have done a bit more to campaign for the No vote in the spring hunting referendum, too, but she strikes me as being one of those many Sliema people who feel disengaged from birds because there aren’t many of them tweeting down on the front.
Public life in Malta is like some novel replete with the absurd portrayed as normal.
