If he were Labour, it would have been in the headline

Times of Malta has carried an article about councillor Alex Mangion’s thwarted attempts at getting official documents with a new gender without mentioning – anywhere in the piece, not even once – that he represents the Nationalist Party.

Anybody who reads it without knowing the background will assume “Hmmm, a transgender councillor, so he must be Labour because they’re the liberal ones.”

Had Alex Mangion represented the Labour Party, it would have been right there in the headline: MALTA’S FIRST ELECTED TRANSGENDER POLITICIAN, LABOUR COUNCILLOR…

Oh, and incidentally, Mangion is not Malta’s first elected transgender politician, but Malta’s first transgender politician, full stop.

Labour prefers its transgender people to be super-camp members of the under-class who dress and speak like circus acts, have a very poor education and are engaged in non-threatening work like hair or make-up.
