Another attempt at fooling and foxing the electorate
On 6th April, just before the local council elections, Joseph Muscat called in the press to a big ceremony next to the hole in the ground in Gzira that for the last many years has been the proposed site of ‘the Metropolis Tower’.
He stood there with the Libyan magnate Husni Bey, who now owns the land, and gave the press a spiel about how this amazing tower was going to be built at last, because he’s in government. Then a crane hauled in a stone to which a ceremonial plaque had been attached, marking the tower’s first stone, laid by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
The very next day, out of sight of the press and the television cameras, the same crane returned and hauled the stone away again.
I had uploaded photographs on this website showing this, and the gap left when the ceremonial stone was removed.
Two months later, the hole in the ground is still in a hole in the ground, with no sign of movement at all, except for the stagnant water in it having dried up.
This photograph was taken this morning.
