UPDATED/Helena Dalli doesn’t know why Government DOI listed Ronnie Pellegrini as her chief of staff

Please note that I do not work for Minister Helena Dalli anymore. I was the Ministry’s Communications Coordinator in the first year of the legislature, till March 2014, when I asked Dr Dalli not to renew my contract. It does no harm to check the facts before you publish them.

I emailed back to say that I would, of course, upload his email immediately, and asked him where he is working now, so that I can include this fact too. But just in case that this fact turns out not to be convenient to mention, a quick browse through the public service telephone directory, which is accessible to all public service employees, shows Jonathan Brimmer listed as a “senior executive” with the Employment and Training Corporation.

Last Saturday this website broke the news that Ronnie Pellegrini, a vile thug from the Golden Years of Labour – he was Public Works Minister Lorry Sant’s chief henchman and fixer – has been appointed head of secretariat to the Minister for Civil Liberties (what this government calls ‘chief of staff’, pronounced ‘stuff’).
It was right there on the Department of Information’s contact list for ministers. You can see it right here in this screen shot.
Now suddenly, Pellegrini’s name has disappeared from the DOI list (see the other screen shot), there is no listing for ‘chief of staff’, and when Helena Dalli was interviewed by The Malta Independent this morning about her glorious new appointment, she said that it isn’t true, that Ronnie Pellegrini isn’t her chief of staff, and that he is just an ordinary member of her private secretariat.
The Department of Information made a mistake, she said. Oh come off it. I think it’s more likely that Ronnie Pellegrini appointed himself head of secretariat, got it listed by the DOI, and then there were major fireworks.
But it’s bad enough that he’s in Minister Dalli’s private secretariat, an old and awful thug like him, with no training in anything whatsoever except for smashing strikers’ faces in with a crash helmet. Perhaps he just doesn’t want to let his awfully close and dear friend Jonathan Brimmer, who works there, out of his sight.
