But then don’t call the deputy leader of the Labour Party a clown…
…or you’ll end up in court for seven years and counting.
The Labour Party is utterly, utterly absurd. The government it has formed decriminalises blasphemy and the “vilification of religion” even as its deputy leader sues a journalist (me) for calling him as a clown and spends seven years in court (still counting) insisting that this constitutes serious defamation.
You can vilify the Roman Catholic Church all you want while standing inside a porn shops and buying vibrators for your next encounter with Phyllis Muscat’s artistic director, but for heaven’s sake don’t ever describe the deputy leader of the Labour Party as an incompetent idiot or an idiotic incompetent because he goes, quite literally, totally berserk.
I agree with the changes to a law which is completely inconsistent with human rights provisions on freedom of expression, but the hypocrisy and inconsistency are astounding.
I don’t see any eagerness to decriminalise libel – ma tarax. All those Labour politicians are queuing up to report journalists (including me) to the police for a spot of harassment lasting several years and the risk of a prison term at the end of it, just like their friends in Baku.
